Hello
I'm having a huge problem. I recently purchased a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB. After installing it, it worked just fine. However, I heard these tend to run very hot and that the stock heatsink / fan was terrible, so I purchased an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 3 for it, as I've heard this is the one to use for this card.
I've installed this, and after doing so I had to rearrange my PCI cards. No big deal. I boot up the PC, it posts fine. Loading windows. As soon as the screen goes black after the little loading screen with the blue "slider" thing, my PC reboots itself.
I can load into safe mode just fine. I first thought that maybe it didn't like me moving my PCI cards around, so I disabled them all. No luck. Then I thought maybe it got all fussy with me removing the video card and putting it back in... so I uninstalled Radeon 9800 Pro and Radeon 9800 Pro (Secondary) from my device manager.
Voila, it boots. After booting, it immediately installs the drivers automatically, of course. Things going fine at this point. That is where I am right now, writing this after that fresh reboot and driver install. However, scrolling down this website is slow. The PC is performing like there's only a generic device driver installed for the video card. And, here's the kicker: When I reboot now, after those drivers have automatically installed themselves, I'm right back to the reboots at loading unless I go into safe mode and once again uninstall the card.
To me, if it's booting up at all and I'm getting video, I don't think I've messed up my card... Have I? I was extremely careful in uninstalling the hold HSF and installing this new one, applied thermal paste properly, everything. I'm at a loss...
