earlier i took my heatsink off to just clear the old dust back on and i forgot that i had to add extra thermal compound. Ok when i put the heatsink back on and tried to boot it wouldnt boot at all, the monitor wouldnt even turn on, it had that orange standby light..black screen and my computer was going BEEEEP BEEEEP BEEEP like a backing up truck so immediately i shut it off...i had this happen once before but it was the ram them, now its definitely not that...i checked all the plugs and everything a million times, i also placed an order for some as5 - is this definitely the problem? if its not then i have NO clue what it is..tomorrow im gonna make a little clip of it with my digital camera and upload it somewhere - please tell me what u guys think the problem is
 
no thermal grease shouldn't cause your system not to post....

you probably either didn't install the chip correctly, dont know how you would manage that....

cracked the core on the chip...

or forgot to plug in the cpu fan.
 
i didnt take the chip out, the fan was running, and the core isnt cracked..so what else could it be
 
Have you checked the motherboaed manual to determine exactly what that beep code relates to?
 
generally things that lead to a beep code are:
Video card (unseat and reseat it, and make sure the butt is fully pushed in, and if it requires power, check the power cable)

Memory: It may have gotten bumped. Remove it and install it one module at a time to rule out the memory

or CPU: If you have an extra CPU remove it and try the extra. even though the core may look great, a small chip could have occurred.

Don't be too sure when trouble shooting. Sometimes even the most experienced dudes overlook something simple.
 
i wish i had another cpu :/...i dunno i read up on google and it seems that alot of people are having problems with this beeping bullshit - and the bad part is that i dont even have a picture on my monitor so i cant do anything
