I read that if you have a hdd bigger thatn 137 windows will only recongized 137 gb if you don;t have service pack 1.

What i want to know is if i installed windows on my 320 gb hdd and it only recognizes 137gb, didn't i lose out on the rest of the space? Or will the space magicially appear and i can partition them later qihout affecting my windows partition?

You should be able to partition it accordingly. If it is an additional drive to your current one, then you can partition the full amount.

yes, SP1 will only see up to 137GB. and yes, you can partition the rest or use a 3rd party too to expand the windows partition to use the rest of the unclaimed space as a single partition.

I've had no problem partitioning a drive into 10GB and then the rest in SP1. I've added lots drives to my machine that were over 137GB. Of course, these are data drives and not the primary ones. Like I said, they were added onto the machine after it was built.
