After being temporarily upset again by 'beeg' aloy face, taco went on an expedition across youtube to find a distraction! Look what taco found!

When do we get these in our living rooms? All we get is some lame RTX ON [roll eye] This is funner nd more advanced taco thinks!!

Behold, the cat!!

CNN)A gigantic 3D cat has appeared on a billboard in Tokyo, where it looms playfully over one of the city's busiest railway stations.

Shown between advertisements, the hyper-realistic feline comes to life on a 1,664-square-foot curved LED screen in the Shinjuku district. The 4K-resolution display shows the cat walking around high above the Japanese capital as it audibly meows.

Airing between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m., the video changes throughout the day. The calico cat is first startled awake in the morning, and by the afternoon it can be seen standing up and meowing at passersby. In the evening, it lies down and falls asleep with its head rested on its paws.

Although the display doesn't officially launch until July 12, test broadcasts have been taking place since last month. And the "Shinjuku cat" has already attracted attention online, with users calling it "cute" and expressing their amazement at the technology.

One Twitter user posted a video of the animal yawning and falling asleep, writing that it "looks sleepy at night."

For those unable to visit in person, one of the companies behind the display, Cross Space, has started livestreaming a view of the billboard via YouTube. But in a press release, the screen's owners cautioned that the 3D effect can be diminished depending on the viewing angle.

The billboard is located over the east exit of Shinjuku train station, an area known as a busy shopping and business center. According to a website launched for the display, which is known as Cross Shinjuku Vision, 190,000 people pass the screen every weekday.

Realistic 3D billboards have appeared in several Asian countries in recent years. Last May, a gigantic 3D wave, designed by technology firm d'strict, took over South Korea's biggest digital billboard in Seoul's Gangnam neighborhood

I think the effect only works the best at that sweet spot of looking directly at the corner.....I saw some amateur video of it from the flat side without seeing the rounded corner and it looked like every other giant flat panel. But when it works...damn.
No no mate, this is different. It's a 3d cat. This is nt a simple flat billboard. It's being projected in 3d, that's why you see it do 3d stuff. You probably seen something older gen versions. Evn on static foto of youtube video, you cn see ears sticking past the white frame. It's all 3d nowm

It seems to just be indeed a regular display, relying on the curvature of the edge of the screen for the illusion as seen from the street corner, judging by this video and user impressions.

The curved Seoul billboard from other angles similarly works to some degree but it's clear the CG box illusion inside becomes distorted.

Still love the concepts and execution, doesn't detract from it imo.

Yeah that's what I meant, it's not '3d' using any kind of glasses-free technique, its forced-perspective 2D. Its still awesome, thought. The one with the Star Trek ships flying out was really cool looking. There are people who do those "gopro walking tours" of this area in Japan and the billboard can be spotted in those as well, you'll see from the long side or coming up along side it.....its just a screen, no real 3D depth to the image, they make
them all so that way the closer you are to the corner of the display where the display intersects, you get the most pronounced effect.

From that angle, it looks like Blade Runner shit going down :)

Still very impressive and eye-catching. Imagine when PornHub gets to renting time on this thing........ :D

edge of the screen for the illusion
No no, look where ears protrude. Nt sure how their doing it. Is there tiny water mist that helps show lasers? Nt sure. In clubs, they use fog to show Ray's but here I dont see any fog?

"look where ears!" are still within the screen ermahgerd!! this is not a 3d projections or hologram, its just perspective.

That is too clever how they used that sharp corner to make it look like cat ears are leaping out of screen where in fact screen is bigger. Omg.

what would be even smarter/cooler, is if they shrunk it a little and then "projected" the image of the building behind the screens graphics so it looks like its on the buildings roof.

If it work on your non 3d monitor (assuming you do not have one) you know for sure that it is standard 2d passing for 3d illusion going on, a bit like those painting on the ground that look like they have real debt:

How am I going to run over it with my car all the way up there?

I love cats, but this made me literally LOL.

Anyways, I expect soon we'll see people bringing blankets out in anticipation of the cat's appearance and start praying to it now. Then eventually the cat will start speaking and start its own communist revolution in Japan.
