Bias Lighting a desktop?

I was casually perusing the intertubes and passed through the AVS forum. There's a sticky regarding bias lighting.

From what I gather, the idea is to put a neutral 6500k lamp behind your display. The added illumination helps reduce eye strain and tricks your eyes into seeing more contrast in the display.

I'm continually frustrated with the black levels on my LG 204TWX and was thinking this might be just the ticket to hold me over until something replaces LCDs.

Has anyone done this? Would it be alright to just find a 'daylight' temp lamp, or are things like the Ideal-Lume lamp actually worth it?
