BFGtech 6800ultra cooling mod questions...

Ok, so the 6800 is the loudest thing in my rig right now, and I want to cool it. I tried the Zalman VF700...not so great for heat, good for noise. I put the stock HSF back on...but I need to quiet this thing. I know, I know, water cooling is in the future for this sucker, but for now...

The reason its so loud in my CPU is because it sits right below the dual 120mm blowholes on my PV-V2000...so the noise has a straight path to my ears. when I put my hand over the top...the noise stops...obvious! But I was thinking of making a 'muffler'. Maybe a section of clear acrylic pipe or PVC...to stack on top of the card to direct the noise better. Some ducting, or something... ANY IDEAS?

Arctic Cooling NV5 worked for me wonderfully using my BFG 6800 Ultra in my HTPC. A lot more quiet and exhausts the air right out the back.

I dont want to be cutting up my back plate. Any other solutions?

Look around for the NV Silencer 5 Rev. 2....it has 2 backplates, one for the 2 outputs (works on dual-dvi and dvi/vga) and the backplate for the exhaust. At least that's what I saw...google'd and found the rev. 2 on some foreign site.

I dont know why no one uses the fan card. I would just love to keep my stock HSF till my warranty is gone, so i use a Vantec Fan card. Its 2 80mm fans that fits in a PCI slot. I put it right under my stock HSF and have had AWESOME results.

My GF 6800nu (PNY) @ 12x6 (380/875) sits nicely at 51C idle and about 53C on load.

If you buy the NV 5, remember to add the single slot add on for the Ultra. It's $1.99 more at FrozenCPU if you get the NV Silencer 5 there.

its pretty loud hehe.....with all my fans turned down i can hear it through my case. There is a slider on the back of the card, will let you control the speed.

Actually, it looks like those would clear. And, if they are made for SLI, the cap would have been taken into consideration. Looks very "cool" indeed. Who makes those blocks??

Well, just installed the NV 40 blocks on my PCI-E cards. 10 minutes with a dremel, and voila. Clears that cap easily. Water cooled SLI here I come...
