Just a quick question about BFG's trade up program:

If I buy a GTX 285 now, when the new cards come out later this year or early next year, will I be able to trade the GTX 285 for the newer model? I haven't used a trade up program before, so I am not exactly sure how it works. What I want to know precisely is when the new card is available, will I be able to immediately trade in my old card for the newer model?

Yeah, I already read that before I posted. It really doesn't answer my questions though.

from the BFG faq

I just registered a new graphics card. How long do I have to participate in the Trade Up Program?
You have 100 calendar days from the date on your invoice or receipt to participate in the program. After 100 days, your card will no longer be eligible for Trade Up.

You can upgrade as long as it is within 100 days of your purchase. You must register with BFG then register your product and upload your proof of purchase within 30 days of your purchase in order to qualify if memory serves me correctly

I already know that I can upgrade....what I don't know is will I be able to get the latest BFG Nvidia chip based card when BFG starts selling them? I also don't know which cards are eligible since I cannot log in and register to see their eligibility list.

I have used the Trade-Up from BFG.
I had two GTX 280s and traded up to the GTX 285s with out a problem.
The transaction took about 7 days total.

When you buy a card and register it, if you then go to the trade-up option, you will be given choices of what you can trade up to and how much if any money you will need to pay BFG.
Once you decide to Trade-Up and make the electronic confirmation, BFG sends you a link, where you then complete the sale. Once they receive your trade-in cards and verify they are sound, your sale is released and you can then used your credit to buy new cards.
Mine were sent out the same day BFG received my trade-ins.

I cannot tell you how long after a card has been released for sale it is up on the Trade-up page as available.

You should email Jeff K. the BFG guy here and he will be able to tell you exactly how long after release the cards will become available..........that said, I do believe (but I'm not 100%certain) that if a new card is released inside your 100 day window, you qualify; even if BFG has no stock yet to release to the Trade-Up program.

Generally, any card available on the BFG store website is available for Trade-up.

Know that when you trade up you will pay pretty much full MSRP, not a discounted price like you see on newegg or tigerdirect.

Just got my GTX275 on Thursday. I'm hoping the new cards are released within the next 100 days.

Nobody is quite sure when the next-gen nV cards will be release, so we can't say whether they will be out before your 100 days is up.

True but with ATI's September 10th release & Windows 7 hitting the shelves in October, we should see a release by Big Green around the same time.

If you buy a card for 300 and 100 days later it is at 200, but they have a GTX 295 for sale for 400, you pay 100 dollars for a GTX 295

But, chances are, that shiny new GTX 300 will be faster than the 295 at any rate......

and if it is.....as I suspect it will be..............I'll take two please.;)
