I'd just like to let everyone know that I'm going to win that contest. I promise to post pics of the card as soon as I get it, and some pics of my winning entry if you like. I'm going to enjoy 512mb of DDR3 and pixel shader 3. Don't wish me luck, I don't need it.

It's a pity the contest is only open to US consumers. I had a fantastic idea that might have won me the prize.

I'll share it with ya, maybe it could help one of yous win the card.

I'm software developer for a company that produces large outdoor LED video screens, the video playback and screen control software is my baby. Currently, their is a big annual expo in south Africa where all kinds of industries represent their products. It's the largest in Africa. Anyway, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), have a huge stage on the expo lake, with a huge LED screen from our company as a backdrop. There are shows and music and TV streamed through my software to the board, different camera angles on the live shows, advertisements, etc.

The shows are broadcast 18 out of 24 hours, throughout South Africa, and on sattellite TV via SABC africa. The potential viewership would have been in the MILLIONS. It would have been easy for me to create a simply BFG advert that could have displayed on the screen at opportune moments. I would have figured out a way to make it untraceble. The software is mine and I am GOD to it.

Heh, I had a good chuckle at his "(stfu)" suffix.

Yeah, apparently he missed that... it's there for a reason.

Your idea sounds great.... you should do it *anyway* and get an honourable mention.

I didn't read that it's open only to the US.... looks like I may have to find a forwarding P.O. box, I'm Canadian. It's still worth the $500 US savings, and the potential to have it in my system before anybody else (I have no idea when it will ship).

I don't wan't to take the chance over getting into trouble for an "honourable mention" by a company that seems to think that overseas customers are second rate.

Use your head. It isn't that they think you are second rate. It's all about legality, and they probably have to 1099-MISC the person who wins ( taxes ), and you can't 1099 someone who isn't an American. They don't just pull a BFG from inventory and mail it to you. It gets documented, expensed, taxed, and written off.

I used to work for as sysadmin for Acer (yes, the OEM), and there are PLENTY of legal ways to get rid of stock, how you catalogue the destination of the stock is unimportant, just as long as the capex is documented it could be written off as capex for internal R&D, or a myriad of other ways. And even if they played it by the book, to exclude the rest of the world's enthusiasts because of some paperwork is just pure laziness. They expect others to go to great lengths to win the compo (and get them VERY good marketing for the princely sum of $500), but then moan about a tax legality????

BFG can bite me. Consumer brand awareness and reception has many facets, and this facet has my name written on it in red ink.

Contest?

BFG?

Where?!

I like BFG (even their mice - Sniper Boomslang 2100 kicks ASS)....and I sure as hell can't AFFORD a 6800....

I didnt see anything on thier site about a contest. Is this info you only get in a retail box?

Thanks for your feedback everyone.

I read the comments about limiting this to the U.S. and I would like to say that in no way shape or form is this a nationalist stance by BFG! Nor does it have to do with any "tax legality".

We are currently only available in the US, and thought that the nature of the contest would be best carried out where our current customers could see the branding that results from the contest. Simple as that.

Anyway, we are looking at expanding into other countries with our products soon, and we'll definitely have a contest that includes those countries as well.

Thank you, Mr. Malley.

I did not intend to proclaim my belief that the US-only competition was anything so silly as nationalism or chauvanism, but simply because I thought that it was too much trouble on BFG's part to deal with the intricacies of an overseas winner.

I had no idea that BFGtech is currently a US-only brand, and your explaination makes perfect sense to me and elucidates the situation perfectly.

It's always great to hear from the represtatives from the hardware industry, and in my eyes your straightforward reply more than destroys the scepticism I felt earlier, and turned it into respect, though I do feel like an idiot now :D

Looking forward to seeing BFG in Africa!

 I SWEAR to God I looked over the whole fraggin' page! Must be like I can never find anything at home untill the wife shows how I walked right past it! :::smack to the forehead:::
