I just got a BFG GTX285 OCX from newegg. I guess its supposed to be overclocked from the manufacturer:

Core Clock.........702MHz
Memory Clock....2664MHz
Shader Clock......1584MHz

But anyways, I installed rivatuner v2.24 and check the system settings where it shows the current cards clock speeds.

In the first pic I have the "Enable driver-level hardware overclocking" box checked and its also set to "standard 2d" with lower core clocks. I am assuming this not the setting I want.

So I changed the drop down option to "performance 3D" and it brings my Core Clock up to the 702MHz and Shader Clock to 1584MHz but my memory clock only goes to 1332, its supposed to be at 2664MHz.

Is there something wrong with my card since its not at the speeds its supposed to be out of the box? I normally don't use rivatuner, just d/led it to verify my OC'd speeds. So if I don't use rivatuner are my speeds not what it should be out of the box?

take your 1332 and times it by 2....magically you will get 2664..:)

the simple answer is DDR is double data rate.....that's why it shows as 1332...

The rest is fine...it will change itself to 3D clocks when you start up a 3D application...
unless your going to overclock the card, just leave the box unchecked, the card will manage the clocks by itself just fine.

ok that makes sense. :) So it will automatically turn my clock speed up when I start a game even without rivatuner? Or would i need to run it each time I start my computer? Thanks.

It will do it all by itself......without Riva tuner even running.....
Riva Tuner is a great tool, but if used incorrectly can cause problems.
thats why I suggested unless you want to OC the card, leave the box unchecked so it does not interfere with the cards own BIOS setings.

Yes rivatuner is not needed. The nvidia drivers themselves will ramp up your clock speeds when you launch a 3d app and will downclock again about 10 seconds after you exit the app.

edit: What Crosshairs said

yeah the speeds out of the box are already oc'd and its plenty fast for me, so I'll keep it at that. I only got the program to check the speeds and real time temps. Can't wait to break this card in. :D Thanks again for the help guys.
