I have a BFG 6800 GT, currently not OC'ed. When I play WoW / CS:S sometimes the game pauses for a few seconds and the sound repeats. Usually gameplay resumes, but sometimes I have to alt-tab out, then back in for it to work. I have a feeling it's my BFG messing up. It's a horrible OC'er and has an idle core temp of 50C.

I thought BFG had reliable products? I don't think it's my new A64 3400+ (stock) but I'm open to suggestions. What's going on? This ONLY happens in games.

Ah... if your card runs at an idle Temp of 50 C, then thats great. My PNY 6800 GT runs at 54-57 idle C but it works fine. Those cards naturally run at those types of temps. However, if your sure its not the rest of the system causing problems and its the BFG 6800 GT then just RMA it. 1) You have a lifetime warranty 2) Bad cards can come out of any company's production line, even BFG. Its Life
 
Check for other processes running in the background.

Optimize your pagefile.

Run memtest. Sounds more like a memory issue to me.

Make sure your Mobo/AGP drivers are installed.

Excellent advice. 50C is a GOOD idle temp for that card. If your load temps are below 80 you're fine too. Maybe you need to turn fast writes off as that can cause a lot of instability. You also might want to reseat the HSF if its not on there well.

I can't believe how many people have fragmented "windows optimized" pagefiles.

FASTWRITE MUST BE OFF!!!!! heheeh that should solve it.. it did for me and my ultra :) GL
 
Ok BakedGoods: For 1, 50C is not bad at all, actually its great. My 6800 GT idles at 53-54C so your fine in the temperature. Try upgrading your drivers. Go to nvidia.com and get the 66.93 version drivers. That should work. I was running into the same thing and this fixed my problem. Oh and another thing, your card is OC'ed 20mhz. Hint, BFG has OC'ed the GT and ULTRA before you open the box up. Just try updating your drivers and come back and tells us if that works, should work.

Also verify that your AGP Aperture is set to 256.
 
Okay, my AGP Arp. is at 256. Fast Writes off. This time it pauses, then my monitor loses the signel and turns off. Resetting the computer fixes this. So if the monitor turns off during the pause it must be because it's losing the signal from the video card no?

Any help would be awesome =)
 
sorry to invade ur thread but is there anyway to tell in windows if ur apartecture is set to 256?
 
No you have to check it in the BIOS as far as I know.

What drivers are you using?
 
Note that CS:S has a stuttering problem unrelated to your videocard valve is trying to fix. Not sure what's up with WOW though, sure its not just lag?
 
Dude, ive had similar problems with my BFG 6800 ultra. The problem for the most part seems to be non existant after doing a couple of things.

Do you have windows SP2 for XP? cause it was really bad with this SP. I uninstalled this.

I also reinstalled Direct X 9.0c

reinstalled videocard drivers 71.02 or what even those ones are.

turned fast writes off and have appature size set to like 512.

another thing is i had an ASUS board and never had this problem. I now have a MSI nforce 3, K8N i think is the mdl #. This is the only board ive experienced this with, but again after doing all that i dont seem to have the problem any more. I played Vampire: bloodlines for a good 40 hours recently with no problems. I also play UT2004 religiously, and havent had a hickup in that game in quite some time. My ultra is clocked at 450/1200
 
how do u go to ur bios? sorry im a noob :( can anyone give me instructions incase i do need to change it to 256. it would be very helpful...

On most rigs you hold the delete key during post. If it's a Dell or HP it's usually F1. If you read the post screen it should tell you which key to press to enter the setup.

Note: Post is the inital boot screen.
 
Have their been any other consistant issues with the BFG6800UOC? I will prolly buy one this week. I seem to remember someone saying that there were driver issues...or a hardware compatibility issue with them. Any ideas? Maybe Im thinking of another Ultra (I was also looking at the coolfx version by gainward and the asus deluxe).
 
Yeah, I never had this problem with my ASUS A7N8X. I'm using 67.03 drivers. I knew HL2 had that problem, so I didn't worry about it until WoW did it. Usually the game freezes, I press Ctrl+Alt+Del and click cancel. The game goes back to normal. I do have SP2 installed though =S I'll give your suggestions a shot. Thanks guys!!
 
the freezing you are thinking of with half life 2 is like 1/4th of a second here and there. The one you are experiencing lasts for about 5-10 seconds, had has a bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz come from your speakers and eventually catches up with itself no? be careful with the SP2 uninstall tho, any programs you installed might not work, so make sure your ready to reinstall any programs that are needed by you if it arises.
