Isn't it true that BFG uses Arctic silver thermal paste on their new 6800 video cards? I read somewhere that they switched to using it, and, as I just bought a BFG 6800 OC, I wondered if it would be worth it taking the card apart to replace the thermal paste if it was the cheap no name factory goo.

I think Arctic Silver is worth it on the 6800GT. A NV Silencer 5 + artic silver is a much better combo.

Yes, I know Arctic silver is worth it. I was just asking if BFG used it by default on their 6800 series cards.

My eVGA had some sort of a silver goop on it .. not the usual white I was used to finding when I removed the reference cooler. It was also very well coated.

Ive been wondering the same as well. But I am a little skiddish about taking off the reference cooler LOL even tho It is just screws :p

My BFG 6800GT had generic white paste on it. I cleaned and replaced with AS5 on gpu and ram.

Interesting. If I decide to pop mine open Ill end up useing AS5 on the core and AS Ceramique on the ram modules.

Why not AS5 on the ram ?? I've heard others specify Ceramique on the ram...

Probably worried about it being conductive... I used AS5 on the GPU and ceramique on the ram because I only had enough AS5 for the gpu and plenty of left over ceramique.. temps are great now with the Artic Silencer NV5 installed.

What true benefits can I expect going from stock cooler/thermal paste to AS Ceramique or 5/NV5 silencer?

AS5 isn't conductive so that isn't a worry dude :)
I have a habit of useing ceramique on ram due to the way it lays down ( it's a little "thicker") and for me it works great on ram :) Besides I don't have enough AS5 to do all the ram LOL I need to buy another tube. Also the ceramique is easier to remove if any gets anywhere.
