Tried to RMA a video card. BFG 280 GTX threw BFG and recieved this response:

BFG Technologies, Inc. is winding down and liquidating its business.
Unfortunately our major supplier would not support our business. As a result we
are unable to setup or process any new RMAs for BFG products.

If you have an existing RMA, have already sent your product in, and have not
received a product back yet, please call our customer service department as soon
as possible at 866.234.3499, Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm CST.

If you have a technical support issue not involving an RMA, please email
support@bfgfixx.com instead.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you,

What is up with this. And what should my next move be? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Cheers!!

What is up with this
There are tons of threads on it already. I suggest reading up on a few of them.

And what should my next move be?
The same thing as if your card wasn't warranted. You are going to have to take the loss and purchase a new one.

what's it doing? if you are about to throw it away, try baking it first.

Sad to say this news is not news anymore.. You can try to bake it as Omegas said but you might as well buy another card. Upgrade to the 400 series!

Definitely try this.

BFG went under, you won't get any help from them, so I'd use this as an opportunity to upgrade.

Wow, this is a shocker:eek:. I've had good experiences with BFG, personally. Damn....guess I'll start going with EVGA, they seem to have top notch quality along with great customer support.

you could always try and bake it or sell it as a broken card on ebay or something so you could at least get some money from it. I wish my crappy 4670 would break so I had an excuse to upgrade immediately, but I'm too cheap of a bastard to upgrade unless I really need to :)

Tell them to send you a power supply of equal value then sell it to recoup the cost of your bum card

Yep, those "warranty void if damaged" stickers on BFG products are now a waste of paper and glue.

They really need to take down their web site or update it or something. It looks normal and doesn't mention anything about them going out of business and when you try to buy something it says this:

Thank you for visiting! We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties with our store.

Experiencing some technical difficulties, no shit.

Bake it otherwise sell it to me so that I can fix it and Sli with my current GTX 280 :D

Bake it and if it works sell it as is in working condition on craigslist and buy a new card from xfx or evga

At this point I won't be buying because a card has extended waranty, if it can happen to BFG, I'm sure it can also happen to EVGA at some point.

What the hell does 'bake a card' mean? I just got my 280gtx RMA back from BFG.... but it seems to be defective still.

so is there a clause that says that if the company closes down they will not honor anymore the warranties??

Who is left to honor a warranty? They're gone and same thing would happen with any other company for pretty much any other product. It sucks, I have about $500 of BFG equipment purchased in the last year, but nothing we can do about it now unless you bought it one a credit card or something that provides additional warranty.

Yes, it's part of being incorporated or a LLC. When the corporation assets are gone that's it.

Look up those credit card statements, most credit cards have protection for this sort of thing.

QFT, baked cards are known to last a while then possibly need re-baking or throwing them away. I would never sell a baked card as working as it shows a lack of integrity. Hopefully you haven't either Bman ;)

What do you think these companies do to these cards to sell them as refurbished then?

I don't think they bake the card and sell it as refurbished. In fact I know some dont. I used to work for a company that sold nvidia GPU's (no it's not BFG) either way, when a card came back defective we would test it, find what was defective and depending on the findings take the good and put it on a new pcb or sometimes simply a little work is all that was needed. We would not bake our cards.

What the poster I quoted was saying was, sell it as used but working, thus never mentioning it died once and was baked.

And that is unethical to do and shows a lack of integrity PERIOD.

A lot of companies do bake...aka reflow cards and components even if yours didn't.

Did that company manufacture cards? Or even have the equipment to heat them back up? Cause if not then of course you wouldnt bake them.

You quoted him saying to sell it AS IS, and working, which doesnt show a lack of integrity...because frankly...the card is working, and hes selling it AS IS, with no gaurantee of anything. Caveat emptor. Selling AS IS, in itself...means the seller has no idea how long its going to last.

The only lack of integrity in this case would be if the seller lied when questioned.

The point is...the baking is part of the manufacturing process...and, id be willing to bet (unless someone that works for an AIB tells me otherwise) that most of the refurbished cards are put through an oven, tested, and sent on their way. Whatever company you worked for is not representative of all. Why do you think refurbs have shorter warranty periods?

Bingo. Really nothing shady about it.

so how many BFG cards on ebay are actually defunct, people trying to get back something out of a broken card they cannot RMA now...???

I wouldn't want that either, specifically I was calling him a dishonest for suggesting that, I just don't have a way with words like Mel.

Except he didnt recommend selling it USED. He recommended selling it AS IS. Big difference IMHO.
