Newb question for a first time builder:

Do they make any good ramsinks for the GTX? Trying to find one, but most I see are suppose to be for ATIs.

On the 7800 there is already a heatsink on the core (gpu) and on the ram. So unless your replacing the stock gpu sink, you dont need to worry about the ram. But if you replace that then any of the ram sinks that are "BGA" will fit.
 
a first time builder has no business messing around with the hsf on a 7800GTX. Install the card and enjoy it, don't break it before you even get to see it ;) my .02
 
I partly agree with that, and partly not. I am not a first time builder, as I have built many many computers, but I have not really replaced a gpu heatsink yet. There is a first time for everything, and unless you try it, your never going to get "better" at doing it. I'm going to be a noob to replacing my stock coolers when I watercool it, so whether this was my 10th build, or my first, I still would have no experience in doing so.

I think he's saying that your first time shouldn't be on a $620 video card. Buy a used 9800 pro or something and try it out before you try it on a 7800gtx.
 
exactly. I have practiced on an old ti4200 taking off the heatsink. I am certainly not going to take my 7800s with no experience and just go tinkering with them to hopefully get the hs/f off.
