BFG 7800 GT OC -- overclocking!

I have the BFG 7800 GT OC, and while I get good performance out of it, I feel like I should be getting more.

For example, playing Counter Strike on 1280x1024 on 8xAF, 4xAA, pretty much full everything (no HDR).. when it gets busy I find it getting pretty choppy.

I have used that registry trick to unlock the overclocking part on my card properties, but after playing around in the past w/overclocking i ended up leaving it stock because I kept thinking I was doing more bad than good.

Currently I have the following specs:
Core Clock 425MHz
Memory Clock 1050MHz

Can you guys recommend some proper overclocking tips? I mean, should I maybe upgrade to an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5 (rev 3) and try overclocking again? Or maybe you guys can throw some realistic o/c #'s that I can try?

Cheers...

Just install Coolbits and let it "Detect Optimal Frequencies" Usually that almost right on what you can get. I just then test it out and if its stable and works, I usually just drop the core and mem by 5mhz just to be "safe."

Okay I overclocked to 485mhz & 1.13Ghz. Seems fine?

Also, this is just under 3D performance. I have a 2D performance tab as well, and under there, only the memory speed is at 1.13, the core is still at 425mhz. Is that ok?

Yeah the core under 2D stays at stock as there really isnt no reason to boost it.

I never messed with a 7800GT so I really cant judge that.

I actually started noticing artifacting at these speeds.. so i slowed it down to 465/1.10 and it's fine.

I really wish I Had someone in my area that I could just drop my computer off, pay them $100, and have them tune my PC to perfection. I dont have the patience or enough experience to make proper adjustments.. voltages, frequencies, timings... man. I wish someone would just do it for me and I could just sit back and enjoy. I'm referring to my entire PC of course... not just the vid card.

You might as well take that down to 446 because you're on the same....it's hard to explain but you just have wasted heat and possible stability issues running at that speed when you will have exactly the same performence if you take it down to 446.

If you still only have 1gb of ram as in your profile then that is probably the main cause of the choppiness. I have a 7800gt oc'd to 470/1100 stock from evga and it handles hl2/cs:s and the like at the same res and AA/AF settings with ease AFTER I upgraded to 2gb of ram. When I had 1gb of ram the game had to go to disk all the time with the settings that high. Check your peak commit charge under the performance tab of the task manager and if it is greater than your max physical ram you should get some more.

its that crazy multiplyer step where you only get performance boost at certian mhz right

when you have your 7800GS OC overcloked, does it give off a high pitch beep when starting games? Mine did... was annoying so i cloked mine back to factory. it quit doing that then.

Basically, every 27MHz, make it 448 just in case of fluctuation, but not any higher unless you can hit 473

So if stock is 425 shouldnt i add 27 mhz then? 452 or 479?

Its weird its like i get NO performance boost with this damn overclocking.. Militia with like 20 people gives me friggin 40-60 fps. GAY.

Quick question about some RAM tests... do these results sound ok?? I have Corair XMS2 TwinX matched pairs, 2x512.. DDR2
