I just looked at the back of my local Best Buy ad and lo an behold they have the BFG Ultra OC advertised for $399. I dont know if this is a mistake or whether this is reflecting future prices...I think i might go to Best Buy today and see if this is for real!!

edit: I just looked at the picture a little closer and noticed it has a GT pictured. I think this was a mistake...better take advantage while they honor it.

also, i checked Best Buy's website, GT is still $399 and Ultra is still $499

Can you scan the ad?

Here at CA, I just check the ad of BestBuy and didn't see any GT or Ultra on it.

I dont have my scanner hooked up. Also, I looked on the website at the ad and thats not the same ad as I got in the paper. This is strange!!! My back page has the title "Show 'em what's under the hood" with a picture of an ANtec Lanboy case, and other antec parts, then has a little picture to the right that says graphics with the picture of the BFG 6800 GT with hte description of the Ultra OC for $399.99. I wonder if they discovered the error and fixed it for most ads.

EDIT: I subscribe to both the CHicago Sun Times and Chicago Tribune. The sun times had the ad I described, but the Tribune had the ad from the website that doesnt have this. Maybe I was lucky to get the ad ???

o my

Didn't we just go through this same thing with BB not too long ago? :p

We shall have terrorists target BestBuy, and blow the stores up. Maybe at night when no one is there, or in the day because no one important would shop there anyway.

I don't subscribe, but I checked both papers and they have exactly the same ad, with no sign of a BFG 6800 Ultra OC or GT. Your subscription paper may have a different or earlier version of the ad.

Did you check the date on the ad you got with the card. They sometimes print them out 3 weeks in advance and the paper might of mixed them up

i say this is BS, you can go on bestbuy.com and click on weekly ad and enter your zip code, it will display the ad for your area. i checked the one for where i am and for chicago and theres no sign of the 6800 on it..

OK, to PROVE i'm not lying, I am setting up my scanner right now to scan the back page. give me a few minutes to get the drivers installed and I will have it posted.

I'd like to know if you double checked the dates on it, you might have gotten one early by mistake.

if its gonna drop that low does this mean its the end of the GDDR3 shortage???? i hope to GOD it is

Working on it, I havent used my scanner in over a year so I am installing it for the first time on this computer. When I get the image up, you can see (hopefully, its somewhat small print) that the date is July 18,2004 in the corner, so I dont think its an early ad.

OK, here it is...........

Its a mistake, the card in the picture is a 6800GT. You can tell by the VGA port, ultra's have dual DVI ports. I would go to Best Buy with the ad and demand a ultra at that price.

Im gonna try and go to a Best Buy tommorrow with the ad and see what they say. The funny thing is, I havent heard of any Best Buy store in Chicago that has had ANY BFG 6800s GT or Ultra. I also did notice that it was a GT pictured, but the description does clearly say Ultra. I also wonder why I am the only one with this ad (i got this one from the Sun Times, but the Tribune had the ad everyone else got).

edit: I just typed the item number after the description and its for the GT not the Ultra. I am not sure if I should even try to get the Ultra for this price, especially since i dont have any money till the end of the month for this thing.

dont waste your time..if they put the GT item number there, that's what you'll get.

if it says ultra, by law they have to honor the ad and let you buy the ultra oc for $399.

Oh well, shouldnt of got my hopes up for anything from Best Buy. I bet if I went in there and complained that the ad said Ultra, I would finally get them to give it to me at that price, but its not worth the hassle. Plus, God knows when they will actually get these cards in stock, cause the last time I was at a BB, the employee in the computer section told me to go over to the new fry's and get the BFG 6800 GT since they had them in stock cause he said nobody knows if they will get them in stock any time soon, if ever. I found that rather funny :)

You can also tell by the 6800GT sticker on the card, if you look closely.

crap i have to go check on that .. need sunday paper

edit: nope I got the same article as the online ad. bummer :(

Here is the same image from bestbuy.com. The scan is much bigger but this sounds pretty worthy of trying. Gonna give that scanned ad a run with my photo printer.

I am starting to think there might be a price reduction coming :)

p.s. Please respond to this thread if you can get it to work!!!

Also, when you click on that Ultra link on the Best Buy Website, the box to the left is for a GT, go figure!!!

Lol you could do that... and then wait 2 months for the card to actually be released.

nice screwup on bestbuy's part, too bad there's no damn way any of us can take advantage of this mistake other than bitching and complaining at the store, which may or may not help.. bleh

edit: the hilarous thing is if you go to this page that was posted earlier, you see it says ultra but if you click preorder it will say the GT. Now the image on that page shows the GT, but if you click VIEW more photos, it will show the ultra. WTF WTF ! lol

Best Buy won't honor it, plus I doubt that they would be instock, plus the SKU listed is for the BFG GT.

Oops read the post wrong before. Now way is that the right price, but if you give them enough sh1t about you might get them to honor it. If they ever get any in stock.

The picture and the model # both point to the GT - but the wording is clearly for the Ultra
GT# = BFGR68256G
Ultra # = BFGR68256U

So you think if I printed that bad boy out and brought it in to my local Best Buy in Peoria, IL - they'd honor it as atleast a price match? Let me know - I'll head my ass over there tomorrow!

Does anyone have a scanned image of the disclaimer on the ad? You know, the one that says something to the affect of "We are not responsible for misprints yada yada yada.."

Big time YMMV....
