Hi guys.

I was just settling down to buy the BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC, untill I read that some don't overclock well . . . I thought people were saying that the BFG could OC to Ultra Speeds (or near it)?

At this point in time, should I be looking atth BFG 6800 Ultra instead? I'm hoping to have this card last about 3 years . .

Thanks.

Jnick

Well, it all depends on your budget. I have tested 3 AGP BFG 6800GTs all with the 2 fan cooler and blue PCB. All of them had problems OCing to Ultra specs, 400/1100. Right now the one I have was the best OCer out of the three. It has an NV5 and max 100% stable OC is 400/1050.

If you want to OC, go with eVGA or PNY. If not, go with BFG with their better warranty. Either way i DON'T think the extra money you'd pay for the Ultra would be worth it.

might i add that both cards are beyond anything i could even start to call exceptional. they are absolutely incredible. the difference between a GT and ultra at this point in time with the applications and games currently available is so minute that you probably wouldnt be able to tell. in the future however, a gap might become more evident, so if it is your intention to keep fairly top notch graphics for this 3 years you speak of (which by the way is a task due to new pci-e and the current rate of graphics development) then it might be in your best interests to guy the ultra.

however, the price difference between the two may not be enough to compensate for the increased performance, which leaves the decision entirely up to you.

to be honest, trying to look into the future of graphics hardware and video game software is comparable to navigating an unmapped terrain in a dense fog. You never know what enormous new leaps and bounds will be achieved in the next year, albiet 3.

The core on my BFG 6800gtOC doesn't overclock too great on stock voltages. 384/1140... (the memory's good though)

Now with voltage pumped up I got it pretty high... like 430/1150 but it was really hot. I don't think the coolers on the BFG cards are too great. But lifetime warranty can't serve you wrong.

I really couldn't notice a difference in games with the core overclocked... although my 3dmark03s went up a few hundred points. IMO it's still better to just go with the 6800gt because the performance difference is miniscule compared to the huge price difference.
