bfg 6600 sli 69.99

i think they mislabeled it
AFAIK, i don't think the regualr 6600s are capable of SLI
so think of this as a passive-cooled 6600 Pci-e with no SLI

Also, i have a msi 6600gt pci-e. Do i have to combine that with another of the same MSI model for sli to be able to work, or can I get a 6600gt from another vendor and put these two in sli?

I believe the new 6600 non GT PCI-x are capable of SLI. I know that they are working on being able to combine different brands of similar cards within the drivers but I am not sure if they have got it released yet.

well, i don't see a sli connector "goldfinger" thing on the pictures that woot has.

Hmm. I wonder if I am brave enough to purchase it and either mod the card or my SC420. That'd make for a decent gaming card for my HTPC, provided it would work in it at all.

This begs the question... (using newegg as a price comparative..)

DUAL 6600 regular? for $150?

Single 6600GT for .. ~$130.

Single 6800 for $170?

Which is going to perform better?

add the benefit of, (in non sli mode) 4 display control...

Since i don't think there have been many 6600 sli benchies.. it's hard to know.

Probably the single 6800nu PCI-E. 12 pipelines @ 325MHz core and 256-bit memory at 600MHz/700MHz will probably beat 2 6600 cards in SLI @ 300MHz core and 128-bit memory at 500MHz/550MHz.

Normally 6600 cards with fans overclock great, 500MHz core and up. But the passive heatsink on those BFG cards won't match active cooling. The 6800nu OTOH will probably overclock pretty well. The PNY version is $168.49AR shipped at newegg and has GDDR3 memory.

Well, not overclocked, the 6600GT outperforms a 6800nu, actually is my experience.

These aren't 6600GTs. :p And good luck getting normal NV43 overclocks (500MHz+) out of these passively cooled cards.

Perhaps you missed the point

1) I wasn't asking about overclocking performance, and capability of these cards. - Stop automatically assuming everyone wants to overclock everything.

Besides.. you know what a big heatsink like that is perfect for? Screwing a much larger fan into. say a 70x70x10mm that moves 25 cfm :)

2) I didn't say this was a GT.

I just wanted to know which would be faster. 2 6600 vanillas, 1 6600gt, or 1 6800nu.. I already knew that the 6600GT (or I should say, feel) that the 6600GT is faster STOCK than a 6800vanilla.

So, the question was more.. "Will the dual 6600 vanilla's that cost $150 out perform the single 6600GT that costs $130.."

I feel the 6800 vanilla has more "headroom" than the 6600GT.. It might be misconception, but I feel as i the 6600GT is basically pushing the top end of the 6600 spectrum, where the 6800 vanilla is the bottom of the spectrum, at stock speeds. The "maximum" overclock you'll get out of a 6600GT will not be able to counter the maximum overclocked 6800 vanilla.

I do not intend to overclock. I don't overclock anymore. I upgrade. :)

Oh, and although it has been answered, I have "official" word about the sli issue. It can't be much more specific than this.

Hello ****** ******, [my name withheld to protect the guilty]

Regarding the 6600 video card on Woot.com. There is no PCI
Bridge on the card, but the card is SLI capable through
software with the latest driver.

Thank you,

2 6600GT's still do not do as well (but all most) as one 6800 with 16pipes. I assume that 2 6600 non gts would do not as weel(but allmost) as one 6800 with 12 pipes.

For the most part, it seems that the 6800 is actually a little faster than the 6600GT. I've benched them on comparable systems in CS:S at high resolutions/detail settings, and have also seen gaming benchmark figures in video card round-ups that put the 6800 just ahead of the 6600GT most of the time. It is very close though.

The BFG 6600 pci-e for $70 is a solid deal though, being a somewhat established and proven manufacturer.

Oh yeah. I agree not everyone defaults to overclocking; I'm one of those individuals.

Really? sli 6600gt's can't outperform a single 6800?

6600 GT SLI = 6465 3dmark05
6800 Ultra single = 5332
6800 256 nu = 2635

Yeah, Yeah.. I know.. 3dmark05 isn't a "valid benchmark" -- so just keep hitting the next page button then.

I honestly asked the question because, I think 2 of these might make for a very quiet SLI rig...

I haven't seen many fanless 6600GT's out there. or 6800GTs for that matter.

Either way you slice it, this is a good deal on a good HTPC video card. Comes complete with HDTV accessories and that passive heatsink is a big plus. Pci-express means you aren't stuck on some older agp platform. A winner from many angles, for htpc's anyway.

How much of a jump would this be from my AGP FX5900 XT? I've been looking to move to PCI-E, and this seems like as good an opportunity as any.

I went from a PNY 5700 Ultra with 128 DDR2 to an AGP BFG 6600GTOC in the same system and seen a very large improvement. I know this a vanilla 6600 but it is very quiet and you should see quite a difference.

My .02

Not that I need one, but i'm going to pick one up anywase. I'm building a qpack rig and this will fit it nicely.

Thanks guys!

ROFL WTF? I hit like 4600 in 05 with a 6800  And overclocked and with the mem volt modded 6600's can hit 550ish and 700ish memory. Not volt modded mem I would say 550ish 600ish memory. I saw benchies and a 6600 vanilla oced like this was 90% of a 6600gt performance. In sli they will rape a 6600gt.

Funny.. I have a 6600GT @ 571/1205, on a 2.53 Ghz a64, and 1gb ram, and I'm just barely braking 4000.

Sure you have "official" drivers?
