BFG 5950 in Shuttle..

right, any single slot card will fit. As far as I know, most companies out there that have 5950U's are sticking to the reference design.....which IS a 2 slot solution. Sorry, maybe you can turn one up but the majority of them aren't gonna work for ya.

Will a Shuttle 200W powersupply support a GEFORCE FX 5950?
It would seem to me that it would not output enough juice to power that card.

I had my overclocked 2.4C rig in my SB65G2 with my BBA 9800XT and it was fine. Neither stability or overclocking was sacrificed or hindered due to the 220W PSU in the box.....they're damn fine little things. Off the top of my head I can't tell you which of the two (5950U or 9800XT) is the MOST power hungry but I wouldn't worry about it. But yeah, I thought we just came to the conclusion that a 5950U wouldn't even fit.....so what does it matter??? There are a couple single slot 5900U's and even more so 5900NU's.....which are gonna be slightly less power hungry then the 5950 anyways. So yeah, don't worry about it and never doubt Shuttle's PSU's for a second.

O yeah...............3,000 posts!!!!!

i ran mine with a 5900u with some problems and i have the enhance 220w power supply, i did have my system full, so i guess it will depend on what you have. with the 9800 pro, it runs perfect with the 220 ps.

shuttle came out with a nice new 250 power supply, i am sure you wont have any problems with it.

Ive seen some people say it wont. I tried a Ti4600 in my daughters new Biostar SFF case, and it BARELY fit. I had to take everything out of the case, HD, CD-ROM, the cage for them, even disconnected the mobo power cable from the PSU. It fit by no more than 1/32". Had to slide my HD to one side of the cage, or it wouldnt have. The backside of the card was resting on the PSU.

Few pics to help you, I *think* the 5900 is the same length as the Ti4600's. Read a review once that showed them side by side.

As you see, had to move in the HD for the Ti4600, or it wouldnt fit. Its also pretty hard to even get in there, because its so long. I couldnt get it to sit up straight to put in right. It was just too long. All in all, took at least 20 mins to put in there. Gladly, I dont change cards all the time..

The 9800XT, and the GF4 MX were as simple as on a full tower case. Just took the side panel off, and in it went.

the 5900u does fit the shuttles as i had one. i just dont know how well it will run on the 200 psu. good luck

I know someone who had one that didnt.

well it has to be a single slot solution, and the molex conector is pointing towards the back instead of the sided there shouldnt be a problem, in my case it was a gainward, but voltage wise i was having problems everynow and then. i was upgrading from a geforce card so it was a great upgrade, since the 5900 didnt work, i went for a 9800 pro.

my msi 5900u is in a shuttle right now, as is a pci sound card
soundcardmod_4.jpg

i use an enermax ps so i cant say yes or no about the stock power supply

fits just fine
the pci sound card on the other hand didnt like the fan on top, so it went from this to this

as long as the 5950 is the same size or so it will fit if its a single slot card

Mine has the AGP on the inside, and PCI on the outside. Thats why I had such a hard time. It was right on top of the PSU. Im positive that MSI model wouldnt fit in mine :/

Im not sure if all the models are big but the 5900 NU made by BFG is huge! You DO need the extra slot next to the AGP.

fallguy, nice pics, but we're talking about Shuttle XPCs not Biostar's SFF. The harddrive and PSU are not going to be issues in the installation of video cards. Exepting maybe power concerns.

On that note I've a 9800 pro and a 2.6c overclocked to 3.25ghz in a SB61G2 with it's crappy little 200 watt PSU.

(mmm toast...)

The big concern would likely be the agp slot location and the cooling solution on the vid card. None of the two slot coolers will work.

My recomendation would be to just go with a 9800xt if you want a high end video card and a Shuttle XPC. Unless of course you're picky about your GPU brand.

actually, thats one of the main reasons why I like my Biostar 200T so much because I still have the extra space between my 9800 Pro's slot so my dually 80mm fans can fit quite nicely:

-if the AGP slot wasnt where it is on these setups, I couldnt have used the 80mm fans which I would not have liked at all. 99% of SFF cases run way too hot due to lack of air circulation so having plenty of airflow was a must for me.

ozziegn, I was thinking of adding some air flow somehow, because it gets a little toasty in the case. My wife would kill me though because we got it for our daughter. Ive got an old XP in there, and its very warm, average 53c with fans on low. 47c'ish when fans are on high. Im trying to get a newer 2500+ that runs cooler though.

The main reason I got a Biostar instead of a shuttle was the wiring, its much better on the Biostar. I like the looks of them better too, and they're cheaper :)

As far as Shuttles, the guy I knew that had one, had this 5900; http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage...75-04.JPG/14-122-175-06.JPG/14-122-175-01.JPG

It just wouldnt fit. So he had to sell it, and he got another one that did.

A slot cooler for your extra pci slot would work well, without the clunkiness of an 80mm fan.

He was talking how hot a shuttle style PC runs, most from being so small? and how they need better air circulation. Right?

yep that's why I suggested that because of the thinness of it instead of an 80mm fan?

what's your point?
