Hey, this is my first post,

I've been looking into a 16 year old's price range graphics card, and am looking at the BFG 5900XT (the pre-OC'ed one)

It is $195 on newegg, and a friend from this forum reccomended it to me, but as I've searched through this forum, I've found very little about this particular card, I have no doubt that BFG is a great company, but am I getting my moneys worth at $195

I have a 1.8 P4 Willimatte, 512 RAM, and am getting an Abit vt7 MoBo (I am upgrading with new mobo and GPU

I play CS, and am looking foward to Doom 3 more than HL2, so OpenGL is preferred, so Nvidia is what I am going for, though I prefer Ati as a company for some reason.

UT2004 would be great too, when I get a new GPU

So is this the best card for me?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

thanks

your proccessor might be a bit of a bottleneck. just like mine ;)

id go with a albatron or XFX 5900XT for $187-$188 or a chaintech for $175
the albatron and XFX both use faster than standard memory and will OC as well or better than a gainward for a few less bucks, also i think the albatron has a copper cooler and both come with ramsinks

I don't wanna do ATI, because the Nvidia will work with doom3 better, (even though I like Ati better) so I am going with the 5900

I do plan to OC my processor a bit, when I get it into a more airy case.

Is gainword the same company as BFG?

The xfx or the albatron or chaintech eh? I'll look into them, any more suggestions anyone?

Anyone heard anything about the Prolink nVIDIA GeForce FX5900XT? its also 195

thanks

The next gen 6800s in theory will work better for D3, not the 5900xt, the 9800 will do better
;)

Go to CompUSA and get a PNY 6800 for $210 on this weeks sale. This card is faster than a 9800xt. (Normally $300, 30% off)

Go down and see if they have any coming in this week.

Not a bad idea, cant hurt to try, or you might get yourself a good deal on a 5950 or 5900U, or something :)

Go for the gold man... 5900 for ~153 or a 6800 with 12 pipelines for ~210?

hell yea, that sonud great actually, whens this sale start?

I'm starting to love this forum heh :)

Does anyone ave any info etc on the sale that they can link/paste? That'd be great

Is it this card?
Verto GeForce 6800 Video Card, 8x AGP, 128MB DDR

Right well I just called my storem and he says that graphics card won't be in untill the 6th, whereas this sale only goes through the 3rd.

Damn, I hope hes wrong, but I doubt it. Oh well, maybe I'll just pick up a pny 5900 (not xt or se) if they have one, I had my hopes all up and everything though

Or I could just wait, but whats the fun in that?

You want to pre order it... any day on, or before the 3rd. 30% off and all.

How old are you? Bring an adult if you are younger, use a credit card at business sales.

The business sales representative can take care of you.

they won;t let me, a store near me won't even honor the 30% off ona ANY PNY cards, and the other, only those "in stock", I told them both that the ad does not specify "in stock" or not, it says all, and if they don't then thats false advertisement.

So do you think its worth it to save up $300 for the 6800, or should I just buy a 5900.

someone gave me this link: a BFG 5900 (not xt or se) for 182:
1http://www.gameve.com/gve/store/productdetails.aspx?sku=VC-BFG-002

or should I do the 195 BFG 5900XT OC from newegg, or the XFX 5900xt from newegg

the first one seems almost too good to be true, because pricewatch's cheapest non xt or se or whatever is 247, so yea

but I guess what can you do

or u can get a 9800pro and softmod it to an xt or something same price range and it'll work like a 5950

still bottlenecked though, but if u ever do upgrade at least you'll have the card to go with you.
p.s. u have 5min to decide before we kill you.

heh sorry, can't decide!

I talked to a store manager, and he thinks there may be somthing he can do, like give it to me at cost or somthing, so I'll save a bit on the 6800, instead of not being able to get it at all, so I'll see

Yea, this is pretty much my "upgrade for now" this card and a abit vt7 (which is why I want the nvidia card) I'll get a new comp in about 2 years anyhow, for college

Is that bfg 5900 better than the xfx (or befg for that matter) 5900xt?

thanks

get XFX if you buy a 5900xt, as they come with faster memory and can oc much higher. But I also suggest waiting and getting the 6800GT for $100 more, as it will double the 5900xt and will last you much longer with the new games.

The reviews I have read say it easily oc's to 6800 ultra speeds with no problems. Theoretically, it should, since it is the same card as the ultra with the same number of pipelines but lower speeds. Go for the GT. I doubt you will be disappointed. It is the 5900xt/9800pro for the new generation of cards.

The trick with that sale is to pre pay for the card. A lot of people have been getting around the sale till the 3rd, cards in later problem by paying for it now & picking it up when it comes in.
I'd get one, but I thnk I'm gonna quit my job on tues so I can't be going around buying $400 graphics cards.

And if you dont have the budget PM me and I'll sell you my 5900 (default clock 400/850) for $185 shipped. Its way faster than the 5900XT (clocks 390/700)

Its the eVGA 5900 non-ultra. (not XT either... between the 2) They sell for $230-240.

Anyway, just an option. I prefer Nvidia too, and am about to get a 6800GT. My 5900 is plenty fast enough, I'm just an upgrade whore. I like to have the cutting edge gear.
