this is weird i get 5888 on 3dmark03 when oc'd to 475/950 which is 5950 speeds, when i do 500/1000 i dont seem to get any artifacts at all, but my score drops to about 5300, whats the deal with that? im on 53.03 drivers too

This doesn't answer your question but Im curious if you have taken extra measures for cooling or not? I have that card and can only oc to like 480/900. :( Could it be my temps?

let me tell u, this card gets damn hot, with my old case i saw 82C at load, but no trouble at that temp, now with my new case which has better cooling i see about 72C load at max. this card can take the temps though pretty good

Ive overclocked many cards. Several of them showed a decrease in performance as the clock speed increased towards the lockup/artifacts limit.

On my 5900nu I've had it up to 475/950 w/o any problems but after running UT2k3 benchies, and 3dMark01/03 I found out that the best performance was reached at 470/935. I don't know why but hey if that's the best then thats the best.

That’s weird I saw performance increase with every overclock from 400Mhz all the way up to 610Mhz beyond that I’m not stable. I benched along they way… 5900nu speeds, 5950ultra speeds, at 530 MHz and at 600 MHz....

arg, with the 51.75 drivers the memory restarts itself every time i restart back to 850mhz. i just thought it was the drivers, so thats why i went to the 53.03 drivers. every time i restart it will stay what i want it to, which is 950mhz, but if i turn the comp off it will then go back to 850mhz. wtf

You checking the box to set the clock speed on startup or something like that? It's in coolbits.

I imagine temps are a big factor, video cards naturally take more heat than CPU's but the cooler you can run something the better.

Using Aquamark3 to pre-test my BFG 5900nu's performance abilities, then testing the OC with Battle Field 1942 online to check for artifacts, I got my card up to 540/1000 running perfectly. However, using multiple test results from Aquamark3, I saw my 5900 peaked and showed no further benefits from going above 525/975.

That's all with the stock cooling, and temps peaking in the low 80's.

For all of you who are interested in overclocking you 5900 cards, it was recently found that updating your card with a 5950U bios increases internal voltages allowing higher overclocks. I posted a relevent thread in this forum yesterday, here:

SOME people have done it with non-ultras and had very good results, check it out, i get clock speeds of 560/950 now
