Got my eyefinity setup, but ha ing problems with BF3. Works fine on one card, but if I try to use all 3 I get an ati driver BSOD. Latest 7970 drivers and application profiles from the main AMD driver page. I must be doing something wrong here, appreciate anyone with a similar setup providing feedback.

Maybe you want to try each card individually to prove all the cards are good.

They work fine in unigine demo and furmark. Everything is at stock clocks for now as well...

Go with the 11.12 drivers with Cap 3. Newer then that and i cant play BF3 in eyefinity or else i get an instant BSOD before i get to see anything.

I believe the only drivers that someone with CF 7970s is only the 11.12 drivers untill AMD comes out with offical drivers for the 7970s.

And yes.. 1 7970 = fine.. but more then that is trouble with anything other then 11.12 drivers.

You can install these after the 11.12 drivers as they will also work on the older drivers. I should prob try them as well since i'm still using the CAP 3 which i cant find.

Eclypse,
You the man! Working perfectly in Trifire now. BF3 Maxed on Chikara (everything) I still had 60fps at 5760X1200!

It looks like we have very similar setups except I am on air and only 3 7970's. Would you mind PM'ing me and we can talk further about your setup? Just started OC'ing mine tonight.

Thanks!

So I went ahead and tried the latest, of course broke my setup. Then tried 12.4 beta no dice. System restore and damn it would you not know. Is 11.12 still the only option for 7970 trifire/eyefinity?

That sucks that you guys are having those problems. I have a 6990+6970 (trifre) and running 12.3 with the Cap1's and I get random crashes too. But I think my problems are related to my overclock. If I set the clocks 900/1400 on all three GPU's and its really weird sometimes I go days without a crash and then somedays It happens to me twice in one night and I get frustrated and go to bed...but If I set my clocks at default then I don't crash.

BTW I'm running Eyefinity too (5760X1080) and I'm getting around 70 FPS on ultra playing BF3.

I still use the 11.12 drivers with cap 3 or cap 12.2 i believe.

I have not tried the newest beta 12.4 but everytime i try something different i end up going back to 11.12. It sucks.

Also being confused about a proper way of installing or removing the drivers is not good either. At the end of the day a fresh install of win7 and install the 11.12 usually fixes it all again.

Could be power related as well and would make sense cause when you overclock 3 cards its gona put that much more of a load on the PSU.

I have been having the same issues. The only drivers that work currently with Tri 7970s is 11.12. I have tried all other versions (12.1, 12.2, 12.3. 12.4, and 12.99999999999999999) with the same results. Mainly I get the BSOD when trying to launch BF3. Single 7970 and dual 7970, no issues. But Tri 7970s is trouble.

I have tried this on 2 different setups with stock clocks and overclocks.

1st Setup was as follows....
Maximus IV Extreme Z (with 2 different CPUs a 2500k and a 2700k)
16gb Gskill RipjawX 1600mhz ddrs
2 x Crucial M4s
3 x Sapphire Radeon 7970s and tried with 3 x XFX Black Edition Double D
Corsair AX1200
3 x Benq XL2420T

2nd Setup was as follows....
Rampage IV Extreme with 3930k
16gb Gskill RipjawZ 2133mhz quad channel
2 x Crucial M4s
3 x Sapphire Radeon 7970s (different cards from above)
Corsair AX1200
3 x Benq XL2420T

Clean Windows installations with nothing else on the machines. I have contacted AMD a few times and ran through their troubleshooting directions to no avail. I have sent them an email and have been on the phone with them almost weekly now. They are escalating me to the next level support, I have turned in system information etc to them. At first they were trying to say that it was my setup, the cards not working, processes running, software compatibiliy, etc, etc... I have proved that wrong by duplicating the same issues on two separate setups with new hardware on both.

As I work through this I will post updates. Be sure you call or email AMD as well, the more they hear about this the more they will get the picture. One guy at AMD told me that this was the first he heard of such an issue. After he said that I was like WTF!??!

At this time Tri 7970s and BF3 = failure using any drivers other than 11.12. Of course now that DICE has updated BF3 I have started getting Direct X errors so as I plug one hole another pops up.

Glad you have the time.. i dont have the time to sit on the phone with them. I thought someone said that the latest beta 12.4 was good with tri-cf 7970s. :/ If not then no point in me trying them with all the hassel of reinstalling for 11.12.

I dont think that guy was running Eyefinity. I think he was 3 x 7970s on 1 monitor :eek::eek:

So is it true that the 11.12s are the only true 7970 drivers? I'm sick of l these drivers that just bring on more problems. I'm tempted to sell these 3 7970s and get 2 6970s for cheap and wait until next round of cards.

I got a 1000 watt Silverstone Strider and my Kill-a-watt is reading 750 while in game.....

:) You really should watch that Kill-a-watt more closely durring gaming. The wattages will yo-yo alot under load on different parts. What you need to run is the last test on 3Dmark Vantage. That one will pull the most wattage of any of the tests. I've seen it pull 100+ watts then the other tests and i can imagine it being much much more when your cards are overclocked.

I've ran a test on each of my 2 PSUs with a Kill-a-watt and seen one with 2 cards and the fans/pump/drives pull in the upper 800 watts and the main PSU with the other 2 cards/MB/CPU pull in up to 1000 watt range. Both will peak durring really high stress of that last test of the default bench set. You can just select the last group to run so it wont take that long.

Trifire works fine with all the drivers I have tried on one screen. It's only when I try to game acrosss three screens I have issues with Trifire.

id just like to say thank you to everyone in this thread. ive been having issues with my tri-fire eyefinity for a month or more and now ive put 11.12's on it all seems fine (for now)

THANK YOU

1 monitor with 3 cards works, but when you go Eyefinity with 3 then you have issues and only 11.12 will work.

I hope/think/assume that AMD is working on a fix which will hopefully be released soon since the 7990 is suppose to be released soon. Working drivers to play the latest games with Eyefinity is a must especially if you are going to release a card such as the 7990. I am optimistic so for now I wont be replacing my 7970s. But, if the problems are still here when 4gb 680s come out I may jump ship and go 3 way sli.

Its too bad because I really feel that the 7970 is a solid card begging for solid drivers.

So when are the 7990s coming out? Wondering how much longer its gona be till we get some drivers to work. Hell i should of sold off my 4th card long ago since i can only get 3 cards to work in BF3 in eyefinity without crashing right away. Just thinking about how i could really use that 4th PCI-E slot that i could really use and a $570+$120 WB on it that i cant even use.. Its stupid.

As a tri-fire suffer'er myself I can attest to the attitude at AMD that nothing is their fault. I ended up going back to one monitor and crossfire because I was tired of all the bugs in the different games I play (bf3, swtor, skrim, etc)

By in far I understand we are a small portion of the community but when you have access to the games and gear... does it not make sense to TEST the shit out all the different combos you can do with your companies hardware.

I decided to migrate to a 30" 2560x1600 in crossfire because i had too many trouble in tri fire with multiple displays. Just because it's available doesn't mean it is viable.

Hi Elmy, I have the same setup as you except I run 6040x1080 (not sure why you would end up at 5760? Unless you don't use bezel compensation). Mine are oc'd to 1450/930 and I don't ever crash. But I don't run at ultra, I get good frame rates at high/ultra but it doesn't feel smooth, so I run modified high settings somewhere between medium/high.

The only main problem I have is that usually about once a round my screen will turn black for a second, then the game will reappear in a small window, probably around 1024x768. Then I click in that window, few more seconds of black screen and then I'm back to full screen again - Very Annoying!

AMD got back to me today. They stated that they are aware of the issues with Catalyst 12.X and are working on having the issues fixed in the next Catalyst release.

For now they stated that using 11.12 would work for Tri/Quad Eyefinity or drop a card(s) for now until drivers are fixed to correct the issue.

Good and bad news, stay tuned.....

Thats good news i guess cause one would think that after all the beta and offical driver releases since and all havin ghte same issue that they either didnt care of have no idea. Atleast we know there aware of it and plan on fixing it..

Thanks for sharing!

Got another email this morning, Catalyst 12.4 certified should fix this issue. /fingers crossed

I agree. I passed along the same message. I told them I cant see how you can release the cards with these issues and how you can plan to release the 7990s w/o good drivers.

Hopefully they fix the issue and you can go back to 3 monitors.

Were you lucky enough to get some kind of idea of a time frame they plan on releasing those 12.4 cert drivers???

Would be the first time i've bothered to turn the PC on in well over a month honestly..

No timeframe but based on previous releases I'd guess the end of the month.

I did get it working 11.12 for short stretches of time, but it locks up like it is a cpu OC problem. So weird, but it has been stable since I settled on the settings and only had problems when I tried the newer drivers. Might have to reimage the hard drive with my base install to start over. Oh well, I am not giving up after the size of the investment. AMD is lucky I like to tinker. Just have not had much time to do so. Need to clear all the drivers first and try that I suppose.

I have this exact same problem only I also have random freezing with a sound loop buzzing in all drivers. If crossfire is off or eyefinity is off i have no problems. I get this on 2 different PC systems also with my 3 7970's. Sapphire has worked with me on this but they gave up and gave it to AMD.
I have reloaded OS twice and ran it with only 1 game loaded and nothing else and still happen's. It started happening the 1st day I put the cards in back in January, to replace my 3 580's which i had only small issue's with. I finally got tired of the freezing and buzzing and began a 3 week process of many fixes, that have resulted in nothing but lots of work. I cant write drivers so I'm am stuck now till someone can. AMD has the 7990 coming out soon so I can only imagine they will finally put the monkeys writing drivers to rest and hire someone from Nvidia who can.

Im wondering why i left my 6970 tri-fire setup, It was working at least LOL. Dont get me wrong im glad BF3 works in tri-fire, but the rest of my games i play im better off with 1 card. Boy o Boy if NVidia had something bigger and badder then the 680GTX id buy it, switching now seems more of a lateral move. Most revies i read 2 680s seem to be the best combo right now.

ya my 8 year old has 3 6950 flashed to 6970's and he has no trouble at all with eyefinity and crossfire at 6048x1080 res.

Same BSOD i got in every driver after release drivers. For DX11 games that is with crossfire and eyefinity eabled.
