I am having repeatable crashes happening when i play BF3 ==> Frozen screen with looping sound and having to Restart.

I got new msi gtx670's and when SLI with both the beta and latest stable drivers I crash after 5-10min. Using Afterburner I increased powerlimit 111% and voltage +12mv and still no luck. The temp loads were 77-84C at 99%usage each.
** Crashes would even occur when the temps were much lower like when i alt tabbed to watch the numbers and crash at 67C and 70% load.


Single card 301.42 I still have the same issue even with +12mv and 105% power limit in AfterBurner 77-80C 99% load.
 
individually same result. Trying individually with the beta drivers now (only did sli before).

*Update*
Beta Drivers w/ different fan settings, crashed after about 15min temps never got higher than 77C.

Turns out its a Realtek driver & nVidia sound driver error that is quite common in BF3.

Since i cannot play that game now :( I have 2 new MSI GTX 670's that i need to sell.

1Card 50-60fps 2560x1440 ultra no AA. 2Cards 4xMSAA 60+ smooth as butter. The 3D mark demos shows the power of SLI.
 
why dont you just get a $30 dollar sound card instead?

getting rid of the video cards makes no sense.
 
I would have to agree. Dumping the the cards is sensless. Get a soundcard and good to go
 
Saki, what version of windows are you running? I know for a fact that windows 7 32 bit and bf3 don't really get along, i had to install win 7 64 bit on 3 pcs , uncle's and 2 of my friends because the game would crash and loop sound endlessly with win 7 32 bit, after like 5 min of gameplay and up to this date idk if there is a fix.
 
Please give more details on how you came to this conclusion? Last I heard that bug was solved after the 500 series.
 
Sounds more like a power issue to me. I had similar issues just before my psu took a dive.
 
I might just keep 1 and get a sound card like you have suggested.

I have Windows 7 64bit. After disabling onboard sound i was able to play half of a match and a second match of 64p conquest with 1 card then got bored of being shot in the ass. I rebooted and enabled sound once more and crashed in 10min aprox.

Realtek 2.70 (latest i believe) + nVidia beta drivers with audio codec uninstalled.
 
Or... you could just disabled/un-install the nvidia audio driver.

I'll take a look into this as well, I get random crash to desktops but with the BF3 tab still open. I have to Task Manager - End Task.

I've got an x79-UD3 and a 670, pretty sure the ud3 uses Realtek.

You do not need the nvidia audio driver unless you want to output sound to an external device such as a TV through HDMI. Most users do not need the nvidia audio driver which is pretty much bloatware. I never install it when I upgrade my graphics driver.
 
It sounds like if you get yourself a Xonar DG or DGX, uninstall your realtek drivers and disable it in the bios you'll be fine.
 
Onboard audio sucks to begin with. I switched to the Sound Blaster HD USB for $100 and never looked back. There are other sound cards that are geared for gamers as well.
 
I dont have any nVidia audio drivers installed and still the the crash.

6years ago i used a Creative Xtreme music card in my first PC and after using onboard for 2years I dont see a difference, even though before i swore i could during competitive CS 1.6 and CoD4.
 
So I take it that in nVidia driver control panel you have all your sound outputs turned off? I use a external sound processor, because I run a personal sound studio with my computer, so I went in before gaming and made sure all outputs were turned off to insure no compatibility issues. I believe that the HDMI audio output was turned on by default.

stick with your 2 cards and like others suggested get a audio card. I had some issues wiht my realtek onbard and nvidia hdmi audio, it took me days to plug & pray to finally fix it. I had to multiple times install / uninstall realtek drivers for everything to work. Perhpas try reinstalling / uninstalling audio drivers... are you using gigabyte realtek package?, maybe try to use plain vanila realtek drivers... or the other way around ?

I know it is frustrating, but once you get setup you won't look back.... use windows even viewer to monitor what is crashing. I remember I had to disable (and eventually uninstall) nvidia 3d stuff....

make sure to use DriverSweeper to delete Realtek drivers while the sound is disabled in the bios.
