Will bf3 run on well on this machine?

I3 2120
8gb 1333 corsair ram
Gigabyte 550 ti
Antec 650 watt pau

With the gpu and cpu combo run BF3 at around 45-55 fps at 1080 resolution with mid-high settings? If not, what are some amd options?

You can run Battlefield 3 on medium settings at that resolution.

How much does the system cost and is it a custom computer build or is it already built?

It will run low-mid settings at that FPS and resolution with no deferred AA (MSAA). The 550ti is what is holding you back the most. A 560ti will net you High settings across the board, and a 2GB version of the 560ti will get you high settings and a couple on Ultra. The i3 you have fortunately has high clocks and hyperthreading since this game can use 4 cores, but it is not holding you back as much as the video card.

If you are looking to upgrade, do the video card first. The 660ti is set to come out soon, and at the very least you will start seeing 560ti's sold cheap new and used. AMD videocards should be a decent alternative also, but I would make sure you get a 6850/7850 or better. Since you already have an Intel socket 1155 setup, your next best upgrade would be any i5 quadcore, preferably a 2500k.

If you were on an extreme budget and absolutely had to build an entire new rig, then I would suggest going AMD. However, you already have an Intel motherboard, so all you need is a new CPU to drop into your current motherboard. A CPU by itself will be much cheaper than buying a new AMD CPU and appropriate motherboard. Besides, any i5 you drop into your current board will be as good as, or better than the fastest AMD offering out there right now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPddsNUHG_M <-- same graphics card - playing at 30FPS on ULTRA.

My buddy has a 460ti and can play on HIGH settings.

If you're willing to move to 720p - you'd probably hit 60FPS with the 550TI.

Good luck and happy gaming dude!

I dont think theres such thing.. 460ti???

I havent build the system yet, its only in the planning: this means that im only considerin potential through bf3 projections. Its for my brother and i dont think he'll be using it for heavy gaming; although he does want a system that will run new games decently.

The i3 was the best option imo, lets hope games are actually multi threaded.

Using this system, im sure it would run mw3, sc2, LoL on the highest settings (maybe a bit lower for sc2).

Should i opt out for spending a few more dollars for something better?

Thanks :S

Buy a used amd hd 6950/6970 on the forums. I've seen A 6950 going for <$170 shipped. My 6970 runs ultra at 1080p with only AA turned off

He meant a GTX 460 and he was talking about me lol. I played at all high settings with 2xMSAA locked at 30 FPS using afterburner. Didn't budge from 30 FPS one bit. Got a GTX 660 now and I do the same except I can crank it up to all ultra 4xMSAA now. GTX 460 is still an awesome card especially since you can find one dirt cheap now.

The GTX 550 Ti is another cheapie these days (snagged an open-box @ MC Rockville for $63.49 - including tax; there's a thread on it in [H]ot Deals Discussion). Realistically, you should pair an Intel quad-core (Qxxxx/i5/i7) with a GTX 460 or newer - unless the game is simply coded poorly, you won't be bottlenecked any sort of way. Even with the Q6600, I have been able to run every game I have thrown at it at 1920x1080 with all or nearly all settings firewalled. Apparently, some of us still think in terms of GPU lag, when it's the CPU that's to blame.
