I am currently running A Gigabyte 6970 2gb windforce OC and a Gigabyte 6950 2gb flashed, and i updated CCC last Thursday to my cards most recent drivers (11.10 from 10/31/2011) and Cap 4 if i needed it. The reason why i updated was due to rubber banding issues and the update seemed to resolve that, i tested it out for 10 mins after the update and it seemed to work fine.

I've just come back to my house and i haven't played Bf3 since i tested the new drivers. I get on, play a few maps like Tehran Highway and Grand Bazaar without any problems. But just now, i start to get game hanging, the last frame stays on screen and sound comes to a complete standstill. I recovered from one of these crashes ONCE, but now i cannot be bothered waiting so i just restart my PC.

I disabled CFX, so i only have my 6970 functioning (my 6970 and 6950 both occupy slots 1 and 2 so i was just checking to see if it's an overheating problem with the two) So now with just the 6970 enabled, i play Bf3 again, for it to hang again.

Any idea on what could be the issue here?

Try doing a clean install of the drivers and cap using atiman uninstaller. If that doesn't help, try removing the 6950 and trying that card by itself. Next thing would be to run a memtest on your ram.

Just reinstalled now i am getting this error, so CCC won't even finish installing.

AMD APP SDK Runtime
Final Status: Fail
Version of Item: 2.5.775.2
Size: 90 Mbytes

Drivers are installed and GPUZ is saying i have crossfire enabled (wtf?) but no CCC.

You may have a faulty download, it happens.
Redownload the driver package.
Uninstall using the ATI uninstall in the control panel, sweep and then install.

How about your sound drivers? Are they current? That may be a problem, check it out.:D

CCC decided to launch after the second install, very strange...I couldn't even launch from the CCC root the first time.

I will disregard that install error for now, will see if Bf3 functions normally.

Also, this link will not allow me to download Driver sweeper:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)_d1655.html

Anyone have an alt link?

DriverCleaner.net

I have selected "cleaning with ATI"

but it hangs on "File Deleted C:\Windows\system32\Difxapi.dll"

But i managed to delete all other ATI programs successfully.

That aside, i reinstalled CCC with the new downloaded installer (the first one was fine but anyway...) but STILL get this

AMD APP SDK Runtime
Final Status: Fail
Version of Item: 2.5.775.2

The more you post about your issue the more it sounds like a corrupted driver or corrupted download. Where are you downloading the driver from? Are you using a download accelerator program. If so disable it. if possible, download the driver from another computer and put it on a flash drive. Completely remove the drivers, reboot into safe mode and run driver sweeper and remove all traces ati/amd drivers. Reboot, disable all antivirus and software based firewalls and monitoring tools, e.g. msi afterburner or gpu-z and install the drivers form the flash drive, revboot, disable all av and stuff again, install the cap and reboot.

Downloaded from the AMD site, only virus protection i have is MSE, nothing special really. And it can't be a corrupted driver cause the first time i used the same install Bf3 was working fine, apart from the crashing. But now when i try to use the install it gives me that AMD APP SDK Runtime failure.

Should i delete "C:\Windows\system32\Difxapi.dll" manually? the file that Driver sweeper could not?

When you install the drivers, do you select express or custom?

I use custom installs, and only include the video driver, catalyst installation manager, microsoft C++,Hydravision. Don't install the AMD SKU or audio drivers.

When you use DriverCleaner, select ATI,CCC,Install and Uninstall. Do that by checking the select multiple filters box. Run DriverCleaner in safemode as well.

Driver cleaner was successful, i uninstalled everything that was headed ATI, after it had uninstalled the drivers from sys32 and wiped the registry it asked me to reboot which is the first time it has done so, ill try again to install fresh from my portable HDD.

Just tried to install CCC again, but it gives me an error straight up, something like "Could not install detection driver" It's just one problem after the other...

Edit, i uninstalled the drivers in device manager, CCC install so far so good.

Ok, so im back to square one. Drivers are installed correctly and u just played Bf3, however the problem still remains of it hanging.

Just before it froze, i checked the temp of my 6970 and it was at 92degC, could that be a factor for the crash?

Im gonna remove my 6950 so it has a bit of room to breathe to see if the overheating is the problem. It is getting warmer where i am so it could a problem.

Grrrrr!!!!

Now i am getting

"Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered." errors now, WTF!!!!!

You may have a failing card, test each card one at a time by itself to see if the issue follows one card.

Op:

I don't know if this is/was your situation too but I was running two 6970/bios unlocked 6950s. Both reference cards. These cards WOULD NOT behave in BF3 in crossfire until I flipped the BIOS switch and got them back to the 6950 settings under crossfire. They would behave just fine by themselves in 6970 settings however not in crossfire. I would flip the bios switch if you have one on the 6950 and see if it behaves using 6950 settings.

Damn, better not be another faulty card, this will be the second 6970 this month if it is.

I just completely uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers without my 6950, cause im guessing that the install took into consideration that another card was being used, even though i only had one 6970.
