Been out of the country for the past 2 weeks... just realized BF4 beta is out. Going to fire it up this weekend.

The main thing that's concerned me is this whole premium thing. I played BF3 for a few months after launch and had enough fun with it - but sort of lost touch after this whole BF Premium thing went live. Honestly, I have no idea what it is, what it gives me, and what I lose if I'm not premium or if there are alternatives. I know there are map packs, but what else?

Can anyone shed some light before I dive into BF4?
 
Premium is essentially a package of all the expansions at a slightly reduced price. On top it gives you queue prioritization and periodic "booster packs" that essentially amount to new camos for your player and weapons and such. The booster packs are mostly cosmetic, but there are some double xp weekends and stuff.

It's really not needed unless you know you will get all of the expansions anyway.
 
It's worth remembering that the whole BF3+Premium thing went down in price fairly quickly (at least that is how I experienced it) after release. If not hardcore into BF, probably worth waiting for price drop?

As far as 'DLC' goes it was pretty good I think, I mean, if you're going to accept paying extra for maps and modes, you did get a lot of them. IIRC BF3 premium also gave you Back to Karkand which was ALSO shipped with the 'Limited Edition' (aka preorder) of BF3, essentially making that pointless (except for you getting it a bit earlier).
