We've tried reinstalling, the patching, restarting twice. It just kills to the desktop when he tries to start it.

EA has a hotline right inside of the manual, that only a person with a manual can call because they dont list the service anywhere else... for tech support...

it is pretty crappy and you have to give away your legit e-mail address to do it, but its EA, and as EA goes its a crapshoot... just like BF2 now...

I'd recomend checking the BF2 FAQ and the BF2 Wiki, google them... it might just be listed as a "known issue" that EA wont fix because it doesnt fit into their pricing plan, as they have addressed the balance issues by stating that "it is too much work to do for free"... expect the same for your glitch woes.

Specs of Brothers computer..and has it played BF2 on it b4?

make sure the Desktop Resolution is set to 60hz..b4 entering game..this can cause the same problems your brother computer seems to be having...

Tell your brother to stop looking at horse porn and get him to upgrade.

Also, spyaxe is not a good thing.

It ran on his older system before.

Specs: AMD 64 3500+
Some MSI S939 mobo (forgot the name of it)
1 Gig Kingston Memory
Asus Ati 9550 128mb

he is lucky in my opinion.
NOW he won't have frustration, won't be forced to buy upgrades and
won't be up at all hours wondering why it drops him, kicks to desktop
and why the damn F up weapons and invincible flying tanks.

YEP he is not missing anything

I would say that video card is a bit weak for BF2, could you elaborate on what the issues is? Is this the only game this happens to?

I think the bottom line is BF2 is the most sensitive game out there. It can have instabilities due to a wide range of things.

Recently I noticed that I would CTD right when the intro movie is supposed to launch and when I switched form my Lite-ON optical to my NEC DVD drive, the problem went away.

Sometimes I have had CTD problems after patchign which were then resolved with a re-install and full patch rather than incremental. This happend to me with 1.4

Also, never run any disk drives with power management because I have yet to had BF2 work if any of my disks are in the spin down state.

One more thing, if you have any memory instability it will show through BF2 easier than even things like memtest...

I have the same problem, and I ran BF2 fine before 1.4. Uninstalled / reinstalled / used full patch, to no improvement.

How can I look at my disk drive's power management settings?

It's under Power Options within the Control Panel. This issue always rears its head immediately after loading into the map, so if you get a CTD before or during loading, then this is not the problem.

Yep, not the problem then. I CTD on launch. Sigh.

My CTD launch problems were solved by using another optical drive, so some may just take too long to respond to BF2.

Try ejecting your BF2 Disc then inserting it again immediately before launching the game. This will ensure that you CD drive is spinning and will reply to the cd check.

You may also want to try the mini-ISO mounted with daemon tools.
