Bf2 stutter with new video card

Hello,

I recently built this system...

Athlon X2 4200
connect3d x1900xt
2gb g skill pc4000 ram
Dfi lanparty ultra-d
36 gb raptor hd
fortron 500 watt psu

The problem is, battlefield 2 stutters in an odd way...theres NO texture caching while it happens....its more like frame skipping...

Im running latest drivers on everything...and ive tried the 4 dual core fixes....still its the same problem...

Anyone know what could it be? Ive tried a clean win xp install but its the same thing :(

Sound blaster x-fi...which i removed temporalily because they told me it could have been the problem

Should I mention this only happens like the first time I go around the map?

I dont know if im exagerating when wanting ZERO stutter

I have an X-Fi and I dont have those issues in BF2, anyhow, Im sure you have played with the video settings and I dont think that is the problem if it only does it the first few minutes. It could be a ram timing issue, have you checked your bios to see if the memory timings are correct? Also are you running anything in the background, such as anti virus or spyware software. I know nortons causes some problems in game due to hogging memory.
 
I used to have what looks like the VERY same issue. Only I was running a 256MB video card with 1GB of RAM.

Are there any aps open in the background taking memory? What O/S are you using 32 or 64bit?
 
Have you tried manually setting the processor affinity? I had frameskip issues with NFSMW and the only way I completely fixed it was using WinLauncher to run it on a single core. 4 hotfixes??? I had an MS hotfix and the AMD driver only - what are the other two?
 
Ok Im seriosuly confused.....

I removed my x1900 and installed my old x800xl and it doesnt happen anymore.....

Did you try a fresh windows install?

Oh wait.. did you connect the Floppy power connector above the PCI Express ports on the motherboard?

Try that.. it may be a power issue with teh x1900 taking up more power then your x800XL.
 
I had similar problems. I think the solution lies in changing the lighting. Try lowering those, it worked wonders for me. The game is just buggy. (I know it sucks to lower settings with your very good setup, but the game just isn't programmed well :/ )
 
is it a clean install of bf2? if not, you could try clearing out the cache in the mydocs/battlefield2/mods/bf2/cache directory. it writes the pixel shader optimizations to disk every time you make changes--sometimes it helps with stuttering. in the very least, it's worth a shot.
