BF2 'Shader Optimization' - WTF?

Sorry for about the thousandth BF2 topic this week.

What is this 'Shader Optimization' message that BF2 makes? I have a few theories, but this is sufficiently different that I've never seen it before, and I wonder: How does one dynamically optimize shaders for a specific system.

Strange huh?

On another note, it appears to optimize every time because I've forced my resolution to 1200x1024.

Why are you running at such a strage resolution? Just run at 1280*1024 or 1280*960, it's only 80 pixels difference.

Anyways, it's probably deciding what shaders you video card does and doesn't support, loading the ones you need and replacing ones you don't support with ones that do. At least, that makes the most sense.

My theory is that the people who made this game have no idea how to program a game properly. The load times are incredibly long, requirements incredibly high, and the graphics not very spectacular. The game is great fun, but from a programming standpoint I give EA an F.

QFT!

That is the whole reason I didnt buy this game. Some people with hyper-threading can't play it because it randomly crashes back to desktop! Did monkeys code this game, and did kids with down syndrome test it for bugs?

I believe they basically did this with Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam when they first came out were buggy?

Oh yes, BF1942 and Vietnam were buggy as heck when they first came out. Especially BF1942, it took quite awhile before it actually ran decently with sound on for a lot of people.

Its most likely recompiling the vertex/pixel shaders based on what gfx card you have and your selected settings, ive noticed that if I turn everything on high the shaders such as the blurred vision have a much greater frame impact.

As for the game being crappily made I agree, its really buggy and probably rushed to meet the set date. But this means great performance boosts with patches which is always a plus.

Also if you hadnt noticed in "my documents/battlefield 2/mods/bf2/cache" there is a cache of compiled shaders.

That's an understatement!

I remember when BF1942 came out....ack.

BF1942 was a POS at release, then after time it became a phenom of the gaming industry.

BF2 has the Dice team which is a REALLY good thing.

Sorry, my monitor is a flat panel 1280x1024. Fat fingers and typing in the dark.

Hmmmm, the shaders Optizmize only once unless you change your settings all the time for no reason. Other than that I average around a 40 to 50 second load time on a Diamond Max 10 HD.

Dice doesnt have a clue really how to code, and EA probably hires other people to come in after release to save its life. I also wouldnt be surprised if Geforce 4 support came up in a patch sometime later down the road. BF1942 and BF:V were a freaking JOKE as far as coding for a game with a major backing.

Anyone else remember playing BF1942 and see the aircraft carriers in the ocean moving forward 10 feet then magically appearing back 100? Lol.

Did Dice do BF1942 and/or BF:V?

I thought they were the DC guys.
