BF2 runs like garbage

hi all,

When I play BF2 I get really bad stuttering/long pauses and I think its unacceptable for my system specs. EVERY other game runs beautifully, COD2,Quake 4,DOD:S,CSS:S,HL2, 3DMark05,FarCry, you get the point.

AMD 4000+ @ 2880 @ 1.610VCore ,DFi LanParty UT SLi DR, OCZ 1GB VX 2-2-2-5 @ 3.5V (PC4000), XFX 7800GTX's [500/1310],Audigy 2 ZS, Watercooled, 250GB SATA Caviar WD

Ive tried playing with no windows explorer and all processes closed...nothing... I love the gameplay but it runs like shit.

I play at shit settings for my computers specs too...

1280x1024
All High
2xAA

Nothing....

I would really appreciate any help... thanks a bundle .

:)

Hmmmm thats odd, I got similiar system specs cept no overclock, and I run everything on max settings at 1280 x 1024 with hardly any lag.

I have a slower system and a worse video card and I have no lag whatsoever.

FX-55
DFI LanParty Ultra
2GB G.Skill RAM 2.5-3-3-6
X800XL
Rest isn't important

Everything at stock right now for the test. I run

1280x960 (1280x1024 isn't an option in the game)
2x AA
Everything at high

As I said, everything runs super smooth and I can alt tab. I am not sure what your problem is though, sounds like a driver issue.

yea, ram would help....

i run on my rig below, bart, and its fine, all on high, cept for lightin on med, and yes i play with textures on high. 4xAA and 8xAF..1280x1024

but on special forces, it taxes my system...so i play at 1024x768, 2xAA 4xAF, again, all on high, except for lighting and stuff

2 gigz be the amount. I got mine....and now I'm addicted to the game. I also read somthin bout BF2 being "sensitive" to O/C'n !

One more vote for ram. This is probably the most memory intensive game in history. And i thought FarCry was bad.

Yep, it's the RAM.. What's strange though is some people seem to run it fine with 1GB and high settings.

yeah its ram...it could be better...the game was just poorly designed and is just a resource hogging steaming pile of shit...but i still love the gameplay

You guys saying RAM are wrong...

The reason why its running like garbage is the latest patch. No questions asked.... that is why it's running the way it runs.

Exactly.

For instance, mine used to run perfect with 1GB... then the new LEET PATCH came out.. and ruined it for a bunch of people. Poor performance, poor patch.

The only thing we can do is wait for a **POSSIBLE** performance fix in the next patch. Which probably won't happen because the developers only cater to the hardcore whiners complaints.

wait, i got the system in my sig, i had a good 70-80 fps with medium settings all around before the 1.12 patch now i run like shit... 30-50 fps, anyone got a fix for me? I dont know what the problem is...

If stuttering is your problem try these things. You DONT need 2gigs of ram to play BF2 smoothly.

-Textures-Medium
-Lighting-Medium (just like the textures there is virtually no difference, but uses considerably less memory)
-Set you pagefile to a max and min of 2mb (this forces Bf2 to store everything in memory instead of storing on the pagefile)

This eliminated ALL stuttering for me.

Im running a Venice @ 2.5, 1gig, 6800GS @ 500/1250.

I hope this helps

i do agree you need 2gb to play at high with the new patch. i had 1gb and it would lag when u first got into the game now with 2gb i have no lag at all.

I used to get that too. Setting the pagefile like i said really did fix it. 0 stutters even at game start.

start-setting-control panel-system-advanced-performance settings-advanced-change

then select "custom size" and set the min and max values to 2. Then hit set and reboot.
Goodbye stuttering.

Actually YOU are wrong. It runs fine in my box with 2 gigs of ram even with this patch.

And its run better on 2 gigs since dayone, so dont give me any "its just this patch" crap.

He needs 2 gigs of ram to run at those settings.

Yeah because I am sure he spent all that money on his box to run games at medium settings

Change texture detail to medium. You need 2GB RAM to run high texture detail.

QFT - 2 gigs will fix it. I had 1 gig when bf2 first came out and the lag was unbearable. Got 2 gigs and bam its fixed.

if u have cable , doesnt cable internet EFFECT the performance? even when u play with computer ? for example...if u have dial up and whiile u wait for the LOADING screen to load for any game ,or wait for anything on windows to load it takes longer then if u had CABLE, u kno wha im trying to say? if u run games with cable internet doesnt data transfer faster, and the performance increase?

If you look at the guide that I posted on the first page, you can barely tell a difference between Medium and High.

also, try easing up on that overclock a wee bit. that 1.6 vcore is a little scary, sure you can't back that down safely and still keep your overclock? if not, I personally would back down to 2.5 or so and brign down that vcore. and yeah, more ram is the way to make BF2 completely happy. having that more ram not only will fix your smothness, but it will bring up your minimum, average, and max framerates quite a bit. especially in BF2. not only that, but with 2GB of ram, you can alt tab BF2, QUICKLY AND SAFELY!! WHOA!!!

See... BF2 was just coded poorly. No need for 2gb if you can live with medium textures and lights.

Lol.. people saying you need 2gigs are clueless to the performance issues. A lot of people with good computers can't play the game since the patch because it runs like ass now.. obviously then, it's the patch.

But go ahead and try 2gigs, but I'm not saying it will run better... might still run the same crappy way. *flushes money*

try upping you AA to 4X i did that on mine (6800GT 1GM ram) and it runs a lot better, try it

my sys: ASUS A8n SLI Deluxe/AMD X2 @ 2.2ghz/XFX 7800GT/2x1Gb XMS Ram/2x250Gb RAIDed HDs

runs the game fine but after about 30 seconds after joining a server i get disconnected... and yes my PB is updated and i have the latest BF2 Patch...what gives?

its probably a combination of only 1gig and overclocks on both cpu and vidcards..easy enough test to try , drop your clocks and play game ....any better?

having 2gigs of ram will help things all around to be smoother , not just BF2 ..tho you might have to sacrifice timings of which unless your a benchmark whore isnt going to matter.
