Im trying to copy my install of BF2 from one computer to the other. after i transfer all the files and run it, it goes to a black screen and the goes to the desktop. has anyone succesfully done this or can point me in the right direction.

and yes, i legally bought the game, and both computers are mine

because i dont have the disk with me. otherwise i would.

i exported the registry keys pertaining to bf2 from my laptop and imported them into the other one but that didnt work. maybe i missed one.

What would you need to transfer over to the other computer? You don't need to do that with accounts.

The cd-key is encrypted in the registry so that it can be only used on the computer you installed it (that way, if someone manage to look into your registry from the internet, he won't be able to use your cd-key). It may even be tied up to your windows account but I'm not sure about that part.

well if thats the case it would be nice if it gave me an error. oh well ill keep messing with it, maybe ill get it somehow

Try copying the registry entries to the new computer. Otherwise, you'll have to completely install the game from disk. You can, however, copy all the game files in "My Documents/Battlefield 2/" to the new computer to save your configs and player profiles.

did the registry thing already, unless i missed an entry, i got dice, Electronic arts and digital illusions.

one thing i did notice is that EA's little compatibility tool says my computer's cpu speed it 600 mhz though. not sure if thats causing a problem or not. windows recognizes it at its full speed.

usually when I launch BF2 and the screen goes black, then it goes back to the desktop, its a config file error, most likely an error with the video config. goto My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default and look for the video.con file, open it with notepad, and make sure the resolution is set to something that that monitor can handle.

the bf2 install does more than just put the game files on your machine it puts a barrage of registry entries and also a driver to verify a legit cd/dvd (hence the need to reboot after install), also you cant run bf2 without the cd/dvd in the drive... and since we cant talk about nocd cracks i cant tell you how to get it to run without the dvd in the drive:)
