I need to buy a game and can't decide between Battlefield 2 and Quake 4. What do you think I should go for?
I wasn't a huge fan of Battlefield 1942, but isn't the new one very different?

I would say both.
BF2 is very addictive and can take over your life.
If you liked Quake 2 you will love Q4

Quake 4 comes out on Tuesday for me and I am getting it also!

I'll sell you my copy of BF2 on DVD for 12 bucks. I played it untill I got my first weapon unlock and got tired of all the random death, Infantry vs Helo battles, TKing and other stuff. As far as I know no one here has played Q4, I am wating for a demo personally because of all the lackluster reviews.

FEAR.

BF2 is my life. Please excuse me while I continue building my 1:1 replica of the Kubra Dam map.

I would say Quake 4, then BF2 later in ~6 months-1 year until the mods like Forgotten Hope 2 are released for BF2.

pfft... I'll buy another copy for $12!!! PM me but of course I'd like to let the OP get it if he wants. He needs it more, as I have one. :)

Hard to say with Quake not out yet. But right now, I'd say Quake. BF2 is fun and all but after a while with all the bunny hopping and shit it will make you want break the disc. Im gonna say Quake and get BF2 later when/if they fix the bunny hopping.

I dunno why people have such a problem with bunny hoppers. It's been a fixture in FPS games for a decade. It's a tactic to many people, not a "cheap" move. It's not going to be disabled or nerfed. Get over it.

BTW, a shotgun or M203 takes care of the bouncers quite nicely in BF2. ;)

They are both so completely different. If you love vehicles then get BF2. There's a lot of vehicle love in BF2. Although I guess Quake 4 has some, but dunno if they are in the multiplayer part.

I'm axious for Quake 4 as I'm getting a bit tired of BF2, even with the new map and all the unlocks.

Banging on the jump key and the z key to go prone in mid air isn't a cheap move? On the real battlefield do soldiers do "the worm" to avoid getting shot?

Are you thinking of just jumping as your getting shot at or are you thinking of the jump/z crap that is being pulled in almost every match I play in?

I only played the Demo of BF2. I was a lot like the first one, with some upgraded game play and graphics. Quake 4 is "supposed" to be like Quake II in terms of game play.

I will let you know next week when my copy shows up

At the very least download the demo for BF2 and see if you like it.

Kurba Damn is the worst level in the game.

They are so different, get the one that suits your play style. Best would be to get both. I grew to fps by fast paced shooters first. So I'm getting Quake 4 on tuesday. But at the same time... to me, BF2 is the best there is.... any system, any genre, NOTHING is better than Battlefield2. The bugginess, the lamers, NOTHING can bring down BF2. :D

and for the record, once my computer could slap BF2 around, I had little complaints on bugs. The wrong color thing was kind of pathetic, but not enough to knock the game to beat off it's perch.

I have to say that I'm looking forward to Quake as my online hope for this year, I absolutely loved Q2 and Q3, but unfortunately broadband retardation in my native land severely impaired my ability to play much.

I really wanted to love BF2, but it's kind of ...spongy... I like the scale, but it lacks the visceral punch of "pure" shooters like Quake and to a lesser extent, UT, and I think the vehicles are totally fucked up, it's too realistic in someplaces, and not realistic enough in others.

Fast and brutal, that's fun, and if you're doing vehicles, they have to be readily available, and pwnable by regular grunts ([H]ard is fun, impossible is just tedious).

And I like classes and specialisations in games, but over-specialisation sucks.

Every review says that Q4 multiplayer is like Q3 (bleh!) and besides BF2 rocks my world and it'll do the same to you probably.
