When I load into a server the game is unplayable for the first 2 mins. Almost like its warming up. I know this is related to RAM but with everything on medium? Im using 1 gig right now because my machine is unstable with 2 gigs (4x512 sticks). Im working on getting 2x1 gig sticks. Should it be lagging with my machine with everything on medium? My RAM is set at 1T 2-2-2-5 timings. Rest of my machine stats are in sig. What do you guys think?

it should be fine with the specs you have....I dunno did you install the latest video drivers and bf2 drivers?

Newest video drivers installed, 78.03. Bf2 patch is up to date.

Did you try a slight increase of your voltage when you had 4 sticks installed? That might stabalize things.
My rig is in my bio, I have 1 gig o' ram with a 9800 pro and besides the load time I can run pretty well on high detail. 64 player maps tend to slow it down a bit though.
Don't forget the tweak memory suggestions that come with the game. (Disabling running services via control-alt-delete).

I think the highest I set my voltage on was 2.8. I kept crashing in certain games/websites/whenever a certain gif file was on the screen. It was weird. I know this is probably a noob question but I am ready to beat the shit outta this comp. Can a sound card be causing lag? Im using a 3 or 4 year old Sound Blaster Live.

Read the BF2 tweak guide at www.tweakguides.com! :) You may have a bunch of cache folders that it's sorting out after loading... Good stuff!

medium at 1600x1200 vs medium at 1024x768, the later uses less GPU mem and therefore system mem.

What res you at?

Bingo. Lower your res. Make sure dyn lights/shadows is low or off, too. Med/High are virtually identical.

Yeah but if he lowers res there is going to be the LCD scaling algorithm come into play, which might make it look like crap. However, I do agree with your options on reducing the memory footprint.

Either way you can tell if you are going over 1GB, just alt tab out and look at the page file size.

Oh yeeeeeeeah, dat right... Dem funky LCDs. :)

hey my computer can handle it, and i have a pos. granted it may look ugly but i can still frag like a mofo

If you have an Audigy 2, it's because of that.

Uninstall your sound drivers. Download the latest Audigy 2 BETA drivers with OpenAL support. Download the latest OpenAL file from Creatives website. Install it, goto your \System32 directory and copy OpenAL32.dll. Browse into your BF2 directory and make a backup of BF2OpenAL.dll, and paste OpenAL32.dll and rename it to BF2OpenAL.dll.

Change your Audio Settings to Hardware with EAX.

Voila.

The lag im getting isn't constant lag. It only lasts like 2 mins into the game then its like it "warms up" and the lag goes away. Could it still be graphics card related if it only lasts for like 2 mins then its smooth?

Is your net connection set at T1? Mine was set at T1 default and it made the game unplayable, I was pissed lol. Set it to cable and all was well.

A faster harddrive will help. I'm sure most people is having the same issue. 2 minutes ain't a alot of time to wait anyway .

This is an insufficient memory issue, THAT'S IT.

Get 2GB if you want to run at your current settings.

I run BF2 at 1024x768 with the rig in my sig and all settings on medium and I have no problems unless I try to play on a server tha already has a high ping. Every once in a while (like maybe once every 10 times I start a game) I get a little bit of lag right at the beginning of the round but it only lasts about 30 seconds or so. Nothing big.

Also, I have an Audigy 2 ZS and I use the default drivers that came with it and I have no problems in any game let alone BF2.

Go look at Vidoe Card Forums look for Nforce 3 and Nvidia 6800 issue's I think you might have the same problem as most of us with K8N Neo Plat and 6800. Seems there may be a issue with any driver for Nvidia in 7. series on Nforce 3 Chipset's. I know Iam having them.

theres another thread around here where a guy fixed his issues by NOT running his mem dual channel. Take out 2 sticks and try that.

that worked for me, i had the same problem, found this trick in some other forum and it fixed up my sound lag for me great!

"OK lets cripple my machine to make it work better"

If you have to run in single channel, you should be RMA'n.

quote:misfitsfiend " ok, sorry to bump this old thread, but just wanted to post the solution i found from another forum.

ok, so i guess there is some sort of problem bf2 has with certain motherboards involving AMD processors running the ram in dual channel, i hope they will fix this in the next patch.

i found that by taking my 1 gig of ram off of dual channel, i fixed the problem.
(the memory banks were like this- X | X |)
(now like this- X X | |)

notice the space between the first dimm slot and the third dimm slot. (the x are the ram sticks)

this has completely fixed my problems. i've heard before that dual channel doesn't make THAT much of a difference on amd based processors, but i'm still dissapointed that i'm not getting the maximum performance from my hardware due to battlefield 2."

so yes J-Mag, RMA for a different MB

Turn textures on medium and it will give you back those two minutes of "startup lag". The textures in BF2 aren't anything to be jumping in joy over either, so just set them down to medium. Also, put dynamic lighting down lower.

Are you saying put the textures on medium for no lag? Cause its on medium right now with lag.
