BF2 Lag after vehicles problem :(

My machine runs fine until I hop into a vehicle; however, it seems that when I do get in a vehicle it's a hit and miss whether I will start getting choppy lag-like effects. Even when I don't get these effects, when I jump out of the vehicle it will make my game choppy. When I Alt-Tab out of the game (I always have task manager up during this) I check the performance and my cpu is running at 100%. I'll go back into the game and it will run fine until I get into another vehicle :(

So, I've heard this game isn't that bad on the cpu, but mine is getting worked by it bad. Is there a way to fix this? I'm running the 81.85 nvidia drivers if that matters.

No, but I'm assuming it would be very, very low at the points in question. I'll check it out though. I'll return when I've done a few tests. Thanks.

Does your hard drive thrash while you get this choppiness?

Also... what res are you running at and what candy do you have turned on?

I'm running at ~50-60fps normally, then when the after vehicle choppiness happens it's like 10-20. I'm running everything at medium and at 800x600 60hz. No, the hard drive isn't doing anything out of the norm when it happens either.

bumping because this is truely ruining the experience as it takes 2 years to get to a base without a vehicle :(

I just looked at your system specs the problem is your ram. Your system will run BF2 great with 2 gigs. If you did put 2 gigs in I bet you could run it at 1024x768, most setting on high, 2x AA and max AF.
I just built a system for a guy with a 3800+ X2, 2 gigs and a X850PE. I have not overclocked it yet but it will run BF2 nice at 1600x1200 everything on high and 2x AA max AF.

BF2 runs great with 1GB, depending on your texture settings. You don't *need* 2GB to run it smooth, you just need 2GB to run it at max settings.

OP, you didn't answer what settings you are using. We can't help if you don't answer the Qs.

Oh sorry, everything on medium no AA or AF. The res is at 800x600 :( I could have swore my system would run this game a bit more smoothly at these settings :(

Not trying to pawn you off or anything, but check out the BF2 tweak guide at www.tweakguides.com. The dynamic shadow and light settings impact your performance BIG time so make sure they're either low or off.

Yeah, I turned them down to low...and while the game looks like total crap now (No shadows makes the game feel so '80s) it runs a bit better. The weird thing though, is why would my cpu be under such a workload? What about these video effects would make my CPU go crazy and jump to 100% usage until I alt/tab out of the game?

Is your 6800U vid card AGP? If it is PCIE then ignore this as it wont effect you.

If so check the AGP aperture size in your bios. Make sure it is set to 256MB. For some ODD reason BF2 REALLY takes notice of this, and reading your post your problem sounds very similar. I started a thread below it helped a few people.

Some people could not find this setting, some motherboards hide advanced setting like Gigabyte "CTRL F1" reveals settings.

Yeah, I did this as mine was set to 128...but it didn't really do much if anything :(

Well,I see you covered other things. How about a defrag of both your system drive and BF2 drive if you haven't already? I have also seen BF2 run a lot better after a defrag, it is more effected by this than other games as well.

100% CPU usage is common during almost all high end games, I think you have a paging issue of some kind. Turn off your Antivirus and any other crap running in the background.

I had 1 gig and BF2 would do the odd stutter, I tested with another 256mb and BF2 ran smooth. I believe BF2 need anythihng over 1 gig to run truely run smoothly, although your problem seems worse than this.

It should run better. This sounds like a driver issue, I'd start by upgrading to the newest versions of drivers for video, then sound, then mobo/chipset.
