Okay, i'm throwing together a **** rig. I am debating between the 9800pro, 6600, and 6600gt. Well, all three of those cards suck in todays world. So I would LOVE to hear your input on cards in that price bracket!

What I need to know is how BF2 runs on those cards. Maybe your highest settings or something? I know ONE of you has to have a 9800 or a 6600!

I have a 9700 Pro ... it's clocked at 9800 Pro speeds.. so here it goes.

1024. res.... lowwwwww settings. =)

See, I can play at that with an FX5200, laggy, but I did it. So a 9800 PRO isn't much better than a FX5200???

whats your price bracket? I am guessing about $75 from the other cards you have chosen.

Thanks

MH

Bingo. I don't wanna spend more than that. Because, well. I don't have the cash :(.

woa no.. the 9800pro spanks the 5200.. no contest.

Edit: the big bf2 killer is ram.. Bf2 loves 2 gigs of ram.. its ok with 1 gig and 512mb is almost unplayable.

i would stick to 16player servers with LOW settings with the cards you are choosing.

Okay, good to hear. He was just kinda vague.

I know 2GB is best, but at the level of settings I'm going to be on, I'll never fully use the 1GB I have :(.

if you already have a gig, I would recommend 6600gt. My buddy plays with one and he runs stock settings just fine. I believe that he even turns the the res a little bit without dropping below 30fps.

I think I've settled on a 9800PRO for the time being. I intend to get a 17" LCD in the next two months or so, then a better GPU after that.

With the specs in my sig, I can play BF2 at 1024 resolution at medium settings quite well, even with 2xAA.

Not bad, not bad at all. Looking foreward to being able to game above LOW settings :).

Theres not a huge difference between the 6600gt and the 9800pro.. I wouldn't even worry about making the "right choice". I think any choice will do till you can get a little more powerful card.

With the computer in my sig (6600gt) I can play BF2 @ 1600x1200 with 4x AA and medium settings no problem.

I play bf2 @1280x1024 with medium settings fairly well with my 9800xt and 1,5gig mem

the 9800pro you are intrested in buying from me is what i used to play the demo when it was released. however i upgraded to a x800xl a few weeks ago and it is a pretty big difference with 1280x960 and high settings. but the 9800pro will play it in 16 player servers. still fun though.

I have a 7900GT and I don't even run everything at high settings. I keep most stuff on low/medium. Even though it can run it on high, it is not quite as smooth as I would like it to be in firefights. My stats stay more consistent with things on lower settings at smooth framerates

use low lighting shadows and med. textures and everything else on highand it should run fine at 1024 my 9700 ran fine at those settings

I had a 6800, which can be had for about 75~ brand new on eBay, and I was able to play at high settings when I got 2 gigs of ram. (Although it was a little laggy at times)

6600GT 1280x1024, low settings except for View Distance maxed out, plays ok, looks like crap!
Theres alot of good deals for X8xx series cards, these will get better performance and are running about $100 at newegg.com or spend a little more and get a 7600gt

it get a 7600gt more than you have but save up.... it much better than the other options

And apparently it fits in an AGP slot???

Anyway, I've decided to upgrade my CPU and mobo first, then go for an x850XT.
