ive read about peoples good peformance with there 6800GT
i on the other hand am not...
ive searched and i couldnt any issues like mine

with the system that iim using in my sig except for the CPU i set that back to stock speeds..

like i stated in the other threat in the Videocard section im getting horrible performance for my system....

Occasionally freezing for 5-10 seconds at a time... not alot but happens...
FPS drops to the high 20's sometimes...highs in the low 60's
things look squarey

using the 77.50 drivers default control except vsync off... AA @ app. AF @ app. set to quality
in game at default high settings, draw distance at 100%

anyone fixes or is this just a odd occurance.. i noticed the same square objects in far cry... only for trees and the draw distance is really low.. i have to get within the range of gernade throwing to see enemies or objects, unless i use a sniper rifle

could it be that the partition that windows is on isreally low in disk space.. iahve 3 partitions the demo is on a different partition

Did you download the driver that came with the demo? I also seem to get alil bit of freezing every now and then. That might just be because it is only the demo.

I obviously haven't tried the demo myself (check my sig) but I've heard people saying that BF2 makes use of more then 1GB of ram...so if you have a pagefile in place and low hard drive space...your disk's preformance is going to be sub-par...and if BF2 dips into that pagefile that could be what's causing the "hiccups" on and off.

games publisher recommends 2 GB RAM for the game running Winders XP. That;s from the head of the Dev team at DICE. Go buy another gig.

I have seen first hand reports that the game will take 1 gig on high settings just for itself. When in game do a alt-tab-del and see how much RAM the thing is taking up in Task Mangler. I bet you well fine over 900 MB taken just by the game, not counting all the other crap windows has to run on the side.

I'd actually be interested to see what happened if he did some disk cleaning or deleted his pagefile if he's using one...but yeah, the extra ram will help.

2gb of ram recommended... that is just crazy

I had the same behavior with my 9800 Pro and I discovered that the video card was actually overheating. Reapplied AS5 and it seems to have fixed the problem, so far.

Para

I tried with and without fastwrites in many games when I had my 6800GT and saw no differences in large ways...could be either the pagefile thing, or overheating.

Its probably overheating, on my opteron rig I get some freezes while flying fast, however due to it being summer over here and AC not installed yet, GPU ambient temp is 55 and core is 70. (Waiting on new fx-55 before I can try on other comp)

My 9700 Pro used to hella overheat every time I played any 3d application (freezing, lockups, etc.) I purchased a VGA Silencer with AS5 and it's been fine ever since.

well I went out and purchased another gig...swapped out one 512 stick to give me 1.5gb. It helps...but if you're hard pressed for cash, you'd best wait to see how the retail version--all patched and tweaked works out works.

I got lucky and picked up a gig for 50 bucks at BB--PC2700 though and yes, it was a price error. Works fine at 230fsb.

well my temps at 74-77load... im gonna purchase some AS5 soon... the geil stuff i have on it doesnt seem to work at all...the processor also heats up pretty good

You only need to disable fastwrites if you're having problems, it's not a performance tweak.

77C load isn't THAT bad, and shouldn't cause any hitches like you're discribing...the only time i saw any skips and pauses that were heat related with my 6800GT were when I had pushed the GPU overclock a touch too far...

run it at 1600x1200 4xAA 16xAF everything on HIGH except texture=MEDIUM

in BIOS, FASTWRITES OFF, AGP4X and try again. and u have 1 gig of ram right?

Why agp 4x?

I run these settings on my oc'd 9800 pro

1024 x 768 , can run 1280x 1024 and only lose 2 fps avg but doesnt look good on my monitor :p
All high except lighting
4xAA / 16x AF , tried 6x AA but i saw no difference in picture and lost some fps
High quality set in drivers

40-70 fps avg

should i get an Nforce board? i believe im using a via chipset.. and i hear there not to much the oc'ers

Try 1280x960. It is still a 4:3 ratio, 1280x1024 doesn't so it can look wack. I use the same settings as you except for the resolution (1280x960 for me).

Lighting being on high for some reason causes CRAZY stuttering. lol I set it at medium as well and it runs smooth as glass, not to mention I don't notice any difference in lighting with it being on medium vs high.

You mean 8x causes freezes? It was probably a board problem.

yes it is weird.....running in agp 8x cause the guns and stuff in both CS:S and BF2 to cause memory-like artifacts....long trianglar glitches... but I have learned to live with agp4x and it's slim to none performance hit :) but if anyone knows a solution..speak up!

Haha, just be thankfull that AGP 8x was more marketing hype then anything else and you really don't lose out on much of anything by "only" using 4x.
