I am having trouble getting BF2 to run on windows 2003. when i run bf2.exe the screen goes black for a second, then flickers, then i am back on my desktop with no error message. and thats it. I set all exe's found in the bf2 folder to xp compatible, still no joy.

WOW and halflife2 run fine on this OS. the only other game that i had trouble with was total war, and that was a problem with the installation, not running the game.

do not flame me over using this OS, i need to for my job.

thanks for any help

what is your hardware, the same thing is happening to my cusions computer, and he is running, windows XP Pro SP2..

his hardware is a ti4800, XP2500+Barton, 1gb DDR3200...Im thinking its the older videocard.

After you get thrown back to the desktop, look in the task manager(ctrl+shift+esc). Is bf2.exe sitting in the process list or not?

not sure ill call and ask him

Hmm, that used to happen to me with certain games. I remember with Midtown Madness it would appear in the process list, but would only launch quite a bit later, sometimes 20 minutes. I don't know how to fix it unfortunately, but I'm sure someone around here will...

Is it a legit copy of the game?

bf2.exe is not in the process list after it shuts down. nothing in the event log either.

I have a AMD winchester 3200, MSI neo2 platinum MB, 1gig of ram, ATI 9800pro 128 vid card.

and my game is a legal copy, bought it today

Windows 2003 is a server OS. Its not a desktop media friendly OS & not designed to have games played on it. Even if you can play some games that doesn't mean you should & will be able to play all games. Great you need it for work. I seriously suggest getting another tower with XP used for gaming & maybe a CPU switch so you can switch between towers on the same mouse, keyboard, & monitor.

I'm not even sure BF2 supports W2k3 for playing the game. But I would bet its supported for running the dedicated server.

a reinstall fixed things up. now it works great on win2k3. thnx for the help.

Win2K was a "serverish" OS too. I ran it on my gaming comp and never had a problem.

I fixed this problem by running dxdiag from the command prompt, going to display tab, and enabling DirectDraw Acceleration.
