Steam is just an extra drm layer, and as a non pirate I don't mind Denuvo at all. Going through uplay also gives the devs a bigger cut. I think I'll also do what Armenius did soon myself.

Primary reason is Ubisoft Connect still runs with Steam. No reason to add another needed layer on top of that, as you say. I haven't bought an Ubisoft game from Steam in nearly a decade, I think? I believe the last one was Assassin's Creed Syndicate. I've also never had issues with Denuvo Anti-Tamper.
