I just realized that the sound on my computer is cr*p, and i've decided to upgrade from my onboard audion and $10 Sony headphones. Im planning on either buying a Creative Audigy 2 ZS (possibly platinum) sound card, or a pair of $100 Sennheiser or Sony Headphones. Which one do you think would increase the quality of sound more, and how big of a difference would it be over my current setup? Thanks.

Personally, I would upgrade the headphones first. Once you do, you will have something more comfortable and of higher quality. Then you will start to realize how bad the onboard audio is, and will just have to upgrade the sound card ^_^.

There's a very good chance you won't notice much, if any, difference in quality with a sound card upgrade when you still use el'cheapo 10$ headphones.

My only tip, is to not skimp on headphones. Instead of limiting yourself to 100$, just save up for a bit longer and spring right for the 160$+ level headphones. You won't be sorry.

~Hope this helps, and keep us posted

at the 160-240$ range, its very opinionated. But, there is a difference between the ~100$ and the 160$+ models. The difference between good headphones, and great headphones so to speak.

Main headphone companies are Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Grado, AKG, AudioTechnica. Each offer models around 160$, and each will sound different, lol. Some people like the beyerdynamic's better, while others like the grado sound, and yet still others prefer others... all opinions.

I own the beyerdynamic DT770pro and DT990pro because I enjoy them. Got the 990's for 130$, and the 770's for ~160$. I enjoy them, but that doesn't mean you will like them as good as say, the grado SR225, for roughly the same price.

But, in general, there is a considerable difference between the sub 160$ models and the 160$+ models.

For an idea of what headphones are out there, headphone.com and bhphoto.com are good places to start looking.

~Enjoy
