Better shine from; Lacquer, Enamel, Urethanes?

Anyone have experiences with either of these finishes. Lacquers? Enamels? Urethanes? Im stripping a LiLi 65 for my woman and am trying to do a pink box but want to get the deepest shine possible. Ive seen real nice looking lacquers but cant find any pinks! Just black or white!
 
well i would go enamel on metal, it usually provide a much harder finish, that can be polished to ultra fine reflective gloss... as far a lacquers go i have 0 experience with em... but i tend to put lacquers with wood, and the same with urethane, urethane is good for surfaces that need to be flexible, its more forgiveing and wont crack but has a tendency to yellow over time if not properly maintained (sanded down and reapplyed) so.. if you ask me enamel is the only way to go, you could always have it powdered coated.. that would give you what your looking for, for shure

sand, primer, sand, primer, sand, pink enamel, sand, pink enamel, snad, pink enamel, wet sand, clear coat, sand, clear coat, sand, clear coat, wet sand, clear coat, wet sand, clear coat, rubbing compound, rubbing compound, rubbing compound. Shiny! :D
 
that's wet sand with 1200 grit then the rubbing compound and then the wax, at least two coats.

Or have your local auto paint store mix you up some pink laquer and do alot of coats so you can polish it with the 1200 grit and then wax.

It is all alot of elbow grease to do a good paint job, but worth it.
 
Laquer has a much deeper look than enamel, but requires more work to get it perfect. There is some really cool things you could do with a pink case. Just imagine some pearl in the pink laquer, it would give you an irridescent finish. Or perhaps a pink candy over a silver metallic primer.

BTW, by work I mean elbow grease as racercarl pointed out.

when you find some pink paint.....post what kind it is and where you found it please.


been trying to find a decent pink so i can paint my gf's case and so far nothing. all i can find is BRIGHT NEON PINK or something thats too purplish.
 
Try Krylon's Zinger Pink....or go to a hobby shop and look for Tamiya Spray Lacquer TS-25 Pink. Any one of those along with some clear coats should do you up well. Just a suggestion.

OR...

Get some from where I get mine from.... Artprimo. Check out their entire line of paints....I think there are at least 4 different Pinks. Nice paint too.

No problem at all. I will suggest though that you call Art Primo first before you order, sometimes they are out of a color and when you order online they will just ship you a color that is close to what you ordered if the color you wanted is out of stock.


Also, I usually go with Enamels, but you could use a Laquer for a computer case that is just going to be sitting there all pretty and such. And here is a guide on how to get a super shine! I used this guide the first time I painted a case, very easy to follow. I use Enamels now becuase my stuff tends to get stuff tossed at it.....it needs to be able to take the abuse. :D

omni basecoat / clearcoat. Painted in 30 degree weather mind you. After it was painted, I cut and buffed it, then polished with a polishing pad and some stuff made for dark finishes.
 
So, If I were doing a paint job on aluminum, what would be the best sandpaper? What grit, and would I need to wet sand it?

The 2 cases are a coolermaster wave master (inside and out) and an Antec Super Lanboy (Inside only)

I am making my nephew a Fire engine mod. I took some old toys of his, removed the lights to put on the case. I found on ebay a nice little plush fire hydrant that will fit over the reservoir perfectly! Now I just need some painting tips.
 
If it is bare aluminium scuff it with 320, and prime, use a good etching primer made for bare metal, then use regular primer and sand till smooth, reprime and do it again with 400. prime with a sealer and then paint. put enough on to be able to wet sand if needed and buff.

take your time and don't rush, and it will turn out great

everything is available from auto zone or schucks to do it that way.
