I have recently acquired the 1st Unreal Tournament. I can't get past 10-15 fps in games with low detail and low resolution. I am using the latest Predator drivers out for my Voodoo Card. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Find a VooDoo3 that will work much better..make sure you have Glide chosen as your video thing

lol for some reason i think your joking around about having that machine.

but i would just find a used tnt2 if your broke.

if not i say its time for a whole new computer.

Pay no mind to anyone dissing your setup. You don't have to have a new rig to be [H]ard, but you know that already.

Anyway, if you're using glide (I'm pretty sure UT had Glide support) you should do pretty well with your setup on lower detail settings. So make sure #1 that you're using Glide. Aside from that I admit it's hard to relate since I haven't been in your position for a while but just the same, there seems to be something amiss.

A while back I set up a system for my little brother and I was able to run UT playable on a Celeron 300 w/ a Voodoo 1. You really shouldn't have too much trouble getting a decent game out of a Voodoo 2.

Those are hacked drivers that BARELY work in XP, really. Time to get something better, bud...

this is very sad.... i would cry if my mother even joked about getting a voodoo.. i think its time for you to upgrade....

That's got to be the oldest system I have seen around here of people using as their primary machine. Never had a Voodoo card so I wouldn't know. 3dfx went out of business a long time before XP came out so I wouldn't expect their drivers to work very well. Look at Aureal. I have about 4 cards just sitting in my drawer and I can't use them because they do not work with XP.

I used to be in a [somewhat] similar solution when I changed to XP with my voodoo3 3k.... that card could run UT very very very nicely in glide mode...it put anything Geforce of the era to shame... If I were you head over to voodoofiles and play around with the 3Dfx card drivers you find there.... you may get a mixed bag and you may find yourself having to switch drivers simply to make windows stable when not palying a game... it's a grave pain in the ass, but it worked for me, and if you can't buy a new video board, then it can certainly work for you.

and staples, I believe it was only a few months difference.... don't diss a guy just because his rig is a little older than most, that's not cool

OR, you can find an old copy of Win98 and dual boot with all your Glide-only games on a seperate partition/harddrive.

if your running it with eax turn it off unreal blows goats with eax performance you'll see another 5-10fps hopefully.

This is another really good point. Make sure your sound options are set low w/ no EAX. I don't remember what sound options UT had so play w/ them. Also makre sure you're playing at 640x480. Turning down all the options but trying to run at 800x600 or 1024x768 will tax the fill rate and memory of the Voodoo.

doesn't winxp take up like 3.5GB itself? How can you have games and WinXP Pro on a 4gb hard drive?

you need new drivers and you need the latest glide versions made to work with win xp. here is where you get them. www.voodoofiles.com :D enjoy! i have a 1.6p4 system that i use as a file server. it has a voodoo5 5500. running dx9. no hardware T&L but it still plays E.Q. flawlessly so my roomate uses it when he needs to log 2 accounts. plays counterstrike at 100fps with 64-tap ansitropic filtering enabled. ut runs about 85 fps just like it used to when it was my main vid card back in the day!! i got it through a run of 3dmark 03 with some specialized drivers and it scored a 300. but i ended up switching the drivers back to the darkmane set because the ones that made 3dmark03 run, killed any preformance i had in dx8 games. good luck!

oh, not at all...a winxp installation that is stripped down can decend to the ~1GB range, and a standard installation doesn't usually climb above 2. That leaves plenty of room for (older) games.
