Hello all! Right now I am using a Viewsonic vx922, and I'm looking to upgrade. I have been very pleased with this monitor, however it has its faults.
First of all, the performance in games is very nice. I notice no ghosting or banding at all; it is very quick. I do notice it 'dithering' i think? around objcets when i move. It looks like there are small rectangles that sort of 'blur' when i move. But I have witnessed this on every other lcd I have been able to study, so not a big deal.
The resolution is fine for games but the pixels are too large. It looks grainy most of the time. There is a yellow hue to the screen at all times and it looks sort of 'dirty'. I see a kind of 'grid' at all times as well. I can live with the viewing angles, as only the vertical angles significantly affect the picture.
The colors are the issue i am most concerned about in a new screen. The vx922 always looks washed out and/or dull even after calibration.
So i am now looking at 1680x1050 widescreens. I have seen most of the 22" screens in stores as well as a few of the 20" i am considering. There are 2 that i have looked at that I am thinking about. I almost bought the Samsung 225bw on the black friday deal for under $300, but the colors really did look horrible. Ive read users on here and other sites claiming that the colors of this monitor are great, so im thinking that the models i saw were uncalibrated and had very bad settings.
I had a quick chance to compare the LG l204wt and the 225bw in the same store, and to me, the picture quality of the LG blew the samsung away. The colors were richer, sharper, and had better contrast (even considering the pixel pitch is bigger on the 225bw). The blacks seemed much deeper and the screen was brighter. The picture just looked "clearer" as well. I wasnt able to test them on anything on the demo it was showing though, nor did i get a chance to mess with the monitors' OSD settings.
So my questions:
Is the lg l204wt really that much better of a panel? Or is this just perception based on inaccurate defualt setting on the 225bw or a poor connection?
To anyone with a 225bw, are you satisfied with the color on it? Does it seemed washed out compared to other models you have seen? Does it improve greatly with correct callibration?
How do the colors on these compare to a vx922 to anyone that has used both? Contrast ratios and response times are not to be trusted ive found. Are there any other options i should be considering?
I would just get the NEC 20wmgx2 if the price would go just a little bit lower, but I've been waiting a long time for that to happen. The egg finally has it at $559, but i cant justify that much on a monitor. Or, convince me that I should?
