bestbuy "accidentally" didn't process lemon clause

NO if you would have read what I wrote I didnt blame the so called customer for anything. Im just saying dont act like a dumbass cuz you didnt get your way. Also much like this case here READ BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH and complain about shit cause much like you, you cant interpret modern english.

They DID repair it, when I sent it in the backlight was broken. When I got it back it was magically working? I hope I can find the paperwork.

Why would I send it in for a broken disc drive cover? Think about it.

Wow is all I can say to the number of posts that I have seen here. BB employees defending (and doing a pretty admirable job too) and people pissing in cheerios etc. Anyways, as a previous BB employee and pilot founder of the GeekSquad before it was that here is what little input I have.

If you have the papers, I would take that laptop back with the papers and talk with the GM. As the previous people have said, keep your cool. Tell him that you would really like to discuss this with him/her first before you have to take it to a higher entity. Please, PLEASE DO NOT mention anything about legal action or the BBB!!! This many times will automatically send up flags and they will basically go into shutdown mode. Best bet is to keep your cool, try and work the situation out with them. Dont go in there with 30minutes time to fix it. However, if things start to not go your way ask politely for their regional managers information because you would like to involve a higher authority in the situation, as you feel it is warranted. I had worked as a cashier, CSR and tech in the 3 years I was there. Only once did I ever blow up at a customer and that was because he was blatantly cussing at me in spanish (he didnt realize I spoke spanish) and I ended our conversation with "You have two choices, either you stop cussing at me in Spanish or I involve RPD and you will be escorted from the store." This was a situation where he had tried to install a car stereo himself, burned it up and tried to return it as "defective." I have been through customers telling me that I was "the son of a motherless goat" and such without exploding. I have even had a customer throw, YES THROW, a 19inch CRT at me because his son has spilled juice on it and shorted it out and I could not replace it.

Granted, some managers are complete duche bags, mine was one of those. He actually had the nuts to come up to me one night while I was alone at the tech bench, with 4 customers and 5 computers that I was working on and demand that I ring his friend up and give him a HUGE "fireman's" discount. I told him to sit and spin and that I had other customers I was working on. But he was a rare exception as most of my other managers were great. I cannot tell you how many times they authorized returns for customers that didn't really qualify for them. But each store will have it's own mentality and how the managers interpret the law(rules).

I still occassionally shop there and have never had any problems with customer service. Yeah you get the occassional rude kid or whatever but that will happen anywhere. If you treat them like a respectable human being normally, NORMALLY they will do what they can to help. BB is not necessarily the best place to buy things but it is also not the worst. Remember, bad publicity will always get 20x more attention then good publicity.

THANK YOU!!!

Anyway much like he said it sounds like you got a douche bag manager. Problem is if you do go to upper authority and you cant prove or disprove the repairs(or wat ever the 4 times was) then much like court you have no case. Also see if they have your repairs on file. I know they do have it in the geek squad program that they use for sending off shit for repairs. ALSO be careful what you say like the above has posted because if you get into technicalities with the managers you will lose I PROMISE YOU. The GMs and managers got the policys and shit down to a T so don't say something and go back on it. Also have you talk to the services manager or just some manager?

Also one last question do you buy a lot of stuff from bb or spend a lot of money their?

That's not quite fair. A lot of people have gotten years of use out of their eMachine. I own an eMachine 5312 that has held up admirably since I purchased it in March 2004. It's sturdy and has a decent set of features. The one repair I required since I bought it was a loose video ribbon cable. And Best Buy fixed that.

My cousin owns an eMachine that has outlasted her own mother's HP, and a couple Dells in my girlfriend's family. It has also outlasted my previous build, but that one was killed somewhere between my own stupidity and a potential that a USB header on the board just didn't agree with the connector on my Stacker 830. That or the USB port on the Stacker really didn't like my mouse being plugged in on top.

And if I recall correctly, the eMachines that the [H] evaluated, have performed admirably.

With that said, I can't see a reason what would be wrong in recommending one, other than maybe inquiring if another eMachine evaluation is on the way to see how the company is doing lately.

Just called them back, I knew they were wrong. They did fix it 3 times, and they didn't count one because they said they didn't repair it. I sent it in a total of 4 times.

The guy claimed the 3rd time wasn't enough, that you need to bring it in broken again. I thought it was 3rd but he insisted, so I am gonna call another store and see.

I'm just stating my case from my dozens of experiences from Best Buy. Many people here (and local friends/family I know) share the same type stories of asshole management as well. After taking about 10 trips to the store and countless hours in the return line for an issue with the same product makes the customer impatient and upset, especially if the manager puts the blame on you for the product or service problem on their end.

Just take a deep breath and settle down, I did not misinterpret you.

If a manager automatically goes into lockdown if you mention the BBB, then he needs to be reported.

If you'd read, you'd see that I said that you need to go up the chain to higher managers, and if you get stonewalled tell them that you are going to make a claim at the BBB. If they are not doing the right thing out of laziness, they will usually snap into line. If they can show you in writing why you don't deserve a *new* computer, then you drop the issue, until then be persistent, calm and respectful.

No one said to *lead* with a threat of going to the BBB, but it is something that you can do and it is your right.

Honestly, who gives a shit if you piss off the manager if he isn't doing his job, if he stonewalls you, you go to a higher manager or the BBB and it is his ass either way.

This is what happened to me at a BB, it was not the store manager (or GM), but just the "manager" who kept pushing away my concern. He actually banned me from the store so that he did not have to deal with it...biggest mistake of his life. Made a few phone calls, walked into the store and confronted the manager...basically a lower end sales employee heard this and ran to a phone calling the GM, while the other manager called the cops on me. The GM arrived and talked to me privately about the matter, then we went and the other (a**whole) manager came over and the GM basically said if you ever do that again you will be fired, and the GM fixed my problem. I did not threaten with the BBB, but I did go to my sources for help. Yet the BBB probably might be better for many people.

Well basically every store has told me that it is indeed the 4th repair, so now the laptop needs to break in under 2 months. I've started using it regularly again with my fingers crossed, but who knows.

I just wish they counted the 4th time it was sent in, then this wouldn't be an issue.

(Christian Powers) just exploded on us and threatened to call the cops. So, we called corporate and setup a conference call explaining the issues. We got on a 'secret' 3 way convo with the BB manager and corporate where we were listening in and the manager didn't know. He was swearing up and down the road calling my family all sorts of unimaginable names and saying we were breaking stuff on purpose.. After this went on he hung up on corporate, and corporate sided with us. They ended up firing Christian Powers from BB in the next few weeks from similar complaints.

This is complete fabrication; Christian Powers was never fired. He went on to be promoted to GM. His last position was the construction of the Findley BB as a new store open GM. A fact that is easily verified. He was not the type to explode and there were never any secret calls. I was present when this person came in for the hundredth time to scam using the service plan. the time he is referring to he had removed the Bios jumper and got very irate when we noticed it. Bios jumpers don't just fall off. Every time there was some other tampering.

By the way it is in the best interest of the store to give the person a new machine if one is called for; there is no stronger argument to the 10 other people buying PCs in the store at the time then saying,"look here is someone getting a new PC with this service plan I just mentioned"

The fact that he removed parts illegaly to sell is evidance of this persons integraty.

What a liar! ha! face MF!

WOAH!!
Strong first post, as much as I might say w1retap is a liar (;) loving the iPhone debate today actually), you might want to be careful with your word choice.

They told us he was 'let go', which I assumed meant fired. But that does sound like something BB would do. Transfer a shitty manager from one place to another so they can continue to rape customers. I can assure you 100% that there were the 3 way calls with corporate, and him exploding in our face. I am not making it up. The next computers they brought us they tested them at the tech bench in the store right in front of us, and they didn't even turn on. You need to stop fabricating your stories to save your beloved Best Buy reputation, rofl. Best Buy corporate even sent us a letter saying they were sorry for our inconveniences and that they had a large shipment of HP computers that were recalled back to the factory due to motherboard manufacturing defects.

But lol, what is this "he removed parts illegaly to sell" mean? When BB takes back a computer, they verify everything is in it at the tech bench when they open it up and inspect it. This was back in the old days when they worked on your computer right in front of you at the front desk. There were no 'jumpers moved' or anything of the sort. You must be thinking of the wrong people.

I wouldn't defend the man, it is probably Christian Powers himself, LOL. He's so up tight and insecure he has to google his own name and defend all the shitstorms about his asshat management from nearly 8 years ago.

On a first post of that caliber, it is either a "friend," the person you are speaking of, or just someone trying to cause sh!t.

I have more faith in your story over his currently, mainly because I have had a similar BB experiences as you and know exactly the bull they pull around there. Especially when they say the "let someone go," and all the did was move him around.

Well, it is just rather humorous that someone would just out of the blue create an account on [H]ardForum and respond in a topic that was buried for months. It just so happened to have Christian Powers name in it. When you google "christian powers best buy", that is the first thing that comes up. Obviously someone was searching on google about the person and where they worked from years ago, so the odds that it is him are very high. There really is no argument unless someone knows the story, and besides for someone at corporate, nobody else would really know besides him. So, obviously he is insecure about things he did in the past and he wants to try to defend them now by saying I falsified a story or destroyed computers. :p I actually think it is hilarious. It didn't work back then, and his arguments won't work today either.

Im going to have to side with W1retap, brand new account, first post, really old thread. Yeah very very fishy. Either way it doesn't help killmon.

Check this out. Same username, says hes worked at best buy as a manager. I don't know what best buy this happened at w1retap but this is probably that manager you are talking about.

EDIT: HAHAHA it is the dude I read down further and it has his name "Christian Powers"

I'll quote some of the stuff.

This is probably his looking for job post after you got him fired. The fact that he tried to refer to himself in the 3rd person makes me believe w1retap more.

Well, I'm having the same bad luck with cell phones and VOIP routers right now too.. maybe I have a ghost in my house or a mini bermuda triangle in my room. lol.

find a way to check the voltage coming into your place. i bet your having brownouts or mini surges.

I dont know if this is true in the states but it certainly is up here...

We have a story called futureshop and its a branch of bestbuy (...or they merged... or something....). There are two branches i regularly go to. One in the heart of down town vancouver and one out here in North Delta where I live. The one in North delta highers a majority of east indians --its not racism, its just this is a largly east indian community. The one in vancouver has excellent practices, its all "sorry sir" and "heres your new XXX sir" and "oh I'll get this off by xpress post right away sir (and the replacement shows up after due process)".

In the east indian culture, your barter. When your trying at customer service, bartering is the last thing you want to do. I cannot for the life of me get them to accept anything. It's "no no sir very sorry sir but you did that/it comes like that/it's intended to do that/anything to avoid a return.

Moral is, try again perhalps? might get a customer service agent whos willing to try to merge the two profiles for you, and get you a new laptop?

^^
I'm not sure you read the thread to see its 6 months old and got bumped by an angry guy who is probably Christian Powers.

WOW... We sound like this because Best Buy isn't a bad company. We would be foolish not to protect the place that supplies us the money. That is like biting the hand that feeds you!!! Dumb.

Yes because best buy managers secretly group on hard forums searching for you net handle to see if your making them look good or not!

Come on now, Best Buy isn't that great of a store, and you know this whether your an employee or not. The Technical Support the so called "Geek Squad" has is absurd. Also, from experience (at least in my area), the management was fairly poor, thus the reason I haven't gone back.

I'm to the point to where even in an emergency, I'd rather stick with the companies that have been good to me and wait it out then go mess around with poorly ran businesses like Best Buy or Fry's.

^^

ahahaha, yes, that is him. LOL. Wow, this guy is pathetic. He's still trying to go around the internet post by post and reclaim his reputation after years of being an idiot. As you can see, he hasn't changed much. :p:p
lol.gif
Just look how many times he got moved around from store to store. He couldn't even hold a position for a year at the best buy locations.

thx for the info munkle :p

As a former best buy employee myself, I can say this is totally typical of the company, my best friend who also is a former employee is getting burned with the same lemon clause policy himself, but with his Westinghouse 37 inch LCD. At the time he bought the LCD it was still considered a tv and he purchased the in home tv service plan. Come to find out now they don't call it a tv anymore because it doesn't have a tuner. I knew they switched over this policy about a year ago but he has owned the tv for much longer. To make a long story short he is getting burned on getting a replacement tv. Now as for me I returned an Xbox 360 and have the receipt saying it was credited back to my CC, but for some reason i have not received the credit back onto my card ( i already called my CC company on this), so all i can say is screw best buy and I will never work there or try not to shop there ever again myself.
