Im going to try a raid setup and need alittle help with the config.

I have 2-WDC 80GB ....right now one has OS and the other is just a backup copy of my stuff. Should I wipe both these clean (format) before putting them in a raid array? What im planning on doing is use a 40GB and copy everything from my 2nd-80GB to that....install the array and then put the 40GB on the IDE2, then copy all my stuff over.

Is it ok to partition my array? Will i lose or gain anything from having 2 partitions?

Also, what stripe size should i use...im a gaming and music person. Some video editing and photo editing.

Also, is it better to put my DVDRW and DVD player on the same channel or put my 40GB back up drive and DVD player on the same channel and put the DVDRW by itself on IDE 1? Will having this 3 HD on my on board IDE slow down my raid setup?

run the DVDRW and DVD-ROM on the same channel, and all the Hard drive's on their own channel for best performance.

Partition if you want...
Stripe size is really a hit and miss issue that needs tested to really figure it out. I am happy with 32K cluster size on my 2xWD800JB array thoug.
