Best way to mount a window?

Hey Guys, I was wonding about what would be the best way to mount a case window.

Any ideas would help.

hey jaw, im gonna be makin a window too, and i think it kinda depends on ur style..if you like some pimpin rivets or screws up top, then thats the thing to do, but if u want it just clean, then some good glue(not super glue, but something really thick i think) would work real well :)
 
I used duct tape inside and outside. Does the job, just doesn't look that great. :D

I know bestbuy sells the modling, as well as their crappy window kits, but they do sell the molding if you need it.
 
I've made windows with both rubber molding and screws. Both methods are relatively easy, but doing it with screws means the finish on the cut has to be pretty good. The molding hides that, so you don't have to bother too much

Another method is chrome trim. I haven't tried it but it looks really good
 
What wouyld be the difference between chrome trim and molding?

I'd like to get a black-chrome trim if possible.
 
Rubber molding holds the window in place. The trim is just fitted all around the edge of the cut shape, then you glue the window or use double sided tape. The trim is there to make the edge look pretty, it doesn't hold the window.
 
Oh, ok. It looks like I need molding then. As long as it isn't too think, I think I'll be fine (my case is black).

Would this be available at an auto parts store?

Actually, I have some left over sillicone from fixing the bathub. I may use that.
 
Yeah, I wish I had the link for that because they showed you the whole process. Basically though, just put the silicon around the window cut area on the case (about an inch from the actually edge so when you pressed the window it didn't squeeze out). Put a bunch of books and cases of coke for a good amount of pressure to keep it there, and viola! Let me know how it turns out.

everything from screws to pop rivits and if u wanna use an adhesive go with some plastic safe epoxi or the double sided foam tape... if u wanna do it easy get 1 of those simple window mounting kits with the black weatherstripping.. u can use one of those window kits or even go to pep boys or midus and pick up some normal weather stripping for cars if u wanna do it that way.... i recomend the foam tape kuz it allows the window to shift a bit if u bump it and still hold onto it tight.. plus if u get bored with the window u can take it out easier then using pop rivits or a permanet adheasive.... good luck n happy modding :)
 
The double-sided foam mounting tape sounds really interesting. If it can hold the window firmly, then it's probably what I'll buy.
 
I have come across other modding threads in the past where people have used Liquid Nails... It worked great. Gave it a little play in the window. By play a mean if you bump it it doesn't crack, the glue flexes some. Then in a later mod the guy used some fingernail polish remover to get the glue worked loose and then viola! He had his window back for another mod.
 
I was considering that too.

However, It looks like I'll be going with sillicone, since I already have some. I'm not going to be mounting it for another 2 weeks or so (I gotta buy cutting discs), so I'll see about it then.

I need some of the molding locally. Any suggestions on where I can pick it in town? PArts store, I hate bestbuy but if i have to, Autozone etc.
 
First window I made, I used black stripping from AutoZone. (the stuff you put on the edges of your doors to prevent nicks if you open your door too close to another call or wall or something. I secured the window using ShoeGoo glue. Glue is thick and strong and worked perfectly. I tried silicon the first time around, but because of the completely smooth nature of the plexiglass, the silicone never set well and the window fell.
