My tower sits inside a cubby in my desk and has very little ventilation. After an hour of gaming it gets quite hot and sometimes shuts down. Ive tried making a duct so the back and top fan vent out the back but im still having heat issues.

Any ideas?

My recommendation would be either to a move said case or to modify your case with a 120mm fan or multiple fans and ensure that your airways within your case are right.

Use a 4.5in hole saw and cut a hole or 2 somewhere in the cubby and mount a couple 120mm fans to pull air out of said cubby. I do this in my entertainment stands for my consoles since heat just builds up in the little shelf spaces for them. This way there is always fresh air going across the console and the hot air is exhausted from the area. I power the fans with an old ass PSU from an HP that is wired to turn on and off with a toggle switch.

Reroute the fans so the air flows in a U shape. Air comes in the top front chassis fan, gets blown back and then blown down towards the bottom front case fan that exhausts.

Just needed 1 120mm in the back and works great! Its a modular power supply so i just ran an extra molex connector out the back (water cooling hole):p

Yeah usually just an escape hole near the top is all you need. If that doesn't do it some intake holes near the bottom will allow even more flow. The air will move on it's own if the temperature difference is enough, hot air rises. It will rise faster the less resistance it has to overcome. Problem with a cubby hole like that is that it forces hot air to collect at the top and push its way out the back, and it tends to just heat up the upper part of the space. This especially suxors if your power supply is pulling air from here.

Holesaw + Intake and Exhaust Holes +Fans = Crappy desk, but cool(er) computer

yes crappy design for where the computer goes but awesome desk otherwise. And now i have a pretty blue glow coming from the back of my computer ;)

I modded my desk with one of these:

It just plugs into an extra USB port on my computer, so removing the computer from the desk isn't a PITA. It's also got an external rheostat so I can control how loud it is.
