Best way to archive large exchange mailboxes

I am migrating from Lotus Domino to MS Exchange. Being a complete noob in Domino, and without a lot of resources out there, I decided to dump all the data in Exchange, and work with the large dataset there. Our budget is very tight, we've laid off some people, so my budget for a message archiver has disappeared (my original plan).

We have Exhcnage 2013 with standard user CALs, is there an easy way to archive the old data, or even all the attachments somehow?

All I'm seeing is manually, mailbox per mailbox, do in-place archives, which obviously would need a lot of manhours. Any ideas are appreciated.

using Export-Mailbox commandlet from powershell, you can filter by things like date range, attachments and keywords for archiving. also make a script to run through all your mailboxes.
