Should I just get a zalman 9500/scythe for 50-60, or is there a better water cooling system (any kit, or combination of items) around for under $100? This will be my 1st time assembling a water cooled system, but I don't mind learning. How much actual work will it take to install such a system (considering the learning time)? Thanks for reading!

dont think you can do good water cooling for under $100. Sry, most decent pumps are about $75, unless youg et a combo for $108, but then you still need a radiator T-line and tubing and fans.

Maybe you can find something used?

Forget the setup, I would be worrying about how much work the upkeep would be to keep it running top notch.

as for under a C-note? i dunno ive usually seen about 150-175 range.

zalmans and thermalrights are pretty good. you won't be missing THAT much on the CPU if you have a good 'sink and good case airflow.

not a chance of getting anyhing decent for $100. even ther thermaltake bigwater usually runs more than that.

you could always buy stuff used from the For Sale forum. I got all my WC gear for $120.

$25 - MCW6000
$25 - BIP2
$50 - AquaExtreme 50Z
$10 - tubing
$10 - T-line, fillport.
using fans that I have, but I might get some others later on.

It's possible, depending on deals you find, barganing, and ghetto rigging.

My setup that I got for cheap
DTek Whitewater: $30 (sale)
Hydor L35 pump: $45 (marinedepot.com)
Single heatercore: Free. from a junkyard.
Res: $0.50: A tupperware container.
Barbs for above res: $0.25: Cut apart a spare Y-Splitter that came with my whitewater
Tubing: $5 for 10 feet: It's not tygon, but it works.
Hose clamps: $1 total: Big package of zip ties
Distilled water + coolant: Free. Found it around.
Duct tape for shroud, holding it together, etc: Free

Total for my setup: $81.75. Not too shabby, either.

best WC under $100 = Big Typhoon!

any WC will be same as or worse than BT

For kit cooling, the lowest you should aim is Gigabyte's latest. Anything less isn't really going to satisfy the cooling you want. It is always best to put together your own setup, but the latest (decent) kits actually perform pretty damn well.

alternatively, you can ghetto-mod a watercooling kit with garden hose, duct tape, car heatercore, tupperware, cheapass waterblocks and an aquarium pump. Not that it's guaranteed to work...

LOL!!!

Yea right. Can't stand TT products.

I've bought a few and NONE were satisfying to me.

I know I am going to get flack for this one...

But I have the Evercool WC-202 which cools the cpu and gpu all under 100.. I got it and couldn't be happier unless i won the lotto. Well if I won the lotto I wouldn't have a WC202 either..

Well anyways with the specs in the sig

I was getting between 31-38 idle and 46-50 under load but I added a push-pull fan setup for the rad and change the gpu/cpu around in the flow and now i get 28-30 idle and 32-38 load... and my gpu temps are anywhere between 39-46...

And I know now everyone will have the same experience as i did with that. This is my long kiss goodnight gift to my barton. But honestly save some money get a better kit, check ebay or the fs forums here you are bound to find a good deal...

DAmned large bore people... always going back to that garden hose... you know, with a proper build you can just as easily use fuel line/IV hose and get very similar results.

Of course, IV line is more expensive than garden hose...

:D

but let's not forget that to get that level of "performance" you need to buy a german waterblock to go with that IV line, that should have some nazi gold hidden in it, based on the price that they charge.

or you can do the "hot water" method to get that IV line onto that Swiftech M[something something]-6000 block.
And I didn't suggest BUYING garden hose, you can easily get one off a neighbour with either a screwdriver or a wrench. Then you can write "MOTHERF***ER" in their lawn with that grass food white powder thing, then watch the grass grow greener there after that neighbour tries to make it disappear by dumping water over it.
