Looking for the best AGP card for under $200...found:

HIS Hightech 9600xt TURBO pe w/ 256meg ram with orig. core speed @ 500, faster memory @ 650 Mhz

MSI (not a fan of Sapphire) ATi 9800pro w/ 128meg ram, core @380 mhz, mem @ 680 mhz

MSI nvVidia 5900xt w/ 128meg ram, core @ 390 mhz, mem @ 700 mhz

If only I had the extra $200 for a 6800 GT. btw, I just picked MSI for the other two cards arbitrarily, i'm not nec. a MSI !!!!!! or anything. The question is: would a high-end 9600xt w/ 256 meg be >/= a 128 meg 9800 pro? which of the three is the best buy? is their another better kind in my price range (pretty sure that's a no.)

what exactly makes the 9800 pro better? the speeds are comparable, and the 5900xt is 256 bit just like the 9800 pro

If you want a $150-200 card today, a 9800pro is pretty much the only choice.

If at all possible, wait a couple months for the AGP 6600GT boards to come out and get one of those instead.

wowzers...yeah definitely will wait for 6600GT to get AGP compatible

if you're willing to wait a few months that's a fine decision. if you want to buy now the 9800pro would probably be your best bet for the top performance.

If I were you I would get a used 9800 pro/np for as cheap as possible. Prices on ebay are still way to high so try local to you or message board related. Or see if you know anyone that upgraded recently and see if you can "borrow" their old card for a while. There really is no sense in paying full price for one of these cards now IMO, I think that it is a total waste of money.

There are also 2 versions of the 9800's out there, 128 and 256 bit-memory interface, so be sure you get the right one.

the 6600 is 128bit? if so... let it die in fiery hell and get a 9800pro 256bit version at ANY time.
