I need at least a 1000w. just so I dont have to upgrade my psu within 2 years. The more watts the better. but I'm on a tight budget. What is the absolute cheapest, desent PSU. basicly something that isnt going to risk my hardware. Dont care about bells and whistles, noise, or power consumption. Long as it wont endanger hardware.

thank you

How about posting some specs of the rig you expect to power? Also not all 1000 watt PSUs are created equal. Some are no better than significantly lower rated PSUs under real world conditions.

The Enermax Galaxy 1kw and Corsair 1000HX are solid options. So is the Thermaltake Toughpower 1200w. Silverstone makes Strider and Olympia series PSUs around the 1kw mark that'd also be solid options and may be a little less expensive.

The OCZ ProXStream 1kw and PC Power & Cooling TurboCool 1kw are both generally cheaper if you look around as they're loud as hell and most are not willing to deal with that.

Pretty much anything else, I wouldn't trust it or it's much more expensive.

Also, as the above poster said, tell us what you'll be running with this. From the sound of things you either don't need as much power as you seem to believe, or need to scale back on the other hardware to avoid potentially damaging it with a poor quality PSU.

What is your budget, exactly? Keep it under $200, or what?

thanks for the help. I dont want to bother typing my stats as I know I'm on the brink of a new PSU and when i run sli280 I will need one. the higher watt request is for future proof. I dont need the power now but will in the future.

and sure.. keep it under $200. keep it under $100 if you can.lol. cheapest 1000w + psu I can get. long as it isn't a POS.

Never ask for anything again if you're too lazy to type out the stats on your machine after people have specifically asked you to. You've been here a whopping 10 days and you're already well on your way to my ignore list... that has 3 people on it. Over the course of 3+ years.

I just grabbed a Corsair HX1000.....yeah it's overkill right now but I am planning for an overhaul later this Summer.

and it will be overkill for the overhaul.

Let me make this perfectly clear. No system of any kind, pulls more than 700W from the PSU. none of em do. Silencer 750 and your done. :p

but yeah, in terms of picking a 1000W, you'd be hard pressed to do any better.

Tri-SLI 280 GTX, RAID 0 with 2+ drives, 2 WC loops, OCed i7 or Core 2 Quad. I would never try to run that on a 750, even a really quality 750 like the Silencer.

Still. The thing is $70 AR right now. Buy them Buy lots of them. I <3 PC Power & Cooling, and I wish I hadn't needed the extra clearance from the Corsair TX 750 over it for a project at one point (which never materialized). That said, the Corsair has treated me well too.

Not true. Most systems don't use that amount, but I could certainly build one that does with little difficulty. Example - a P6T6 WS Revolution with a heavily-overclocked i7 920, 6 watercooled 4870X2s, and a whole bunch of HDs. That system would pull more than 700W, easy.
