Bought a new rig with a single 4870 [for now] so im looking to upgrade to a larger higher rez monitor. Im very tight for cash right now but could hold off for a short bit and save some cash if its REALLY neccesary. Ive heard some of the good panels are to by are the Samsung, BenQ and Dell monitors. Not sure if they have to be the high end models or not but oh well. Right now i can budget in the 300 dollar range but near the end of the month i could allot some more but would rather not if i dont have to. Im perfectly happy tweaking the monitor grayscale and colors and all that to get the best pic out of it so i dont necessarily need the best "out of the box" panel just something with good potential.

Any suggestions?

I was in your same situation last week, and have the same video card.
For ~$250-300 you can pick up a pretty decent 24" (TN panel) monitor.
If your CPU/RAM can handle 1920x1200 it would be nice

Will you be gaming primarily? If so a TN panel should be fine for you, if you are doing advanced photo/video editing you probably want to pick up a 22" S-IPS/ m-pva.

Check out the BenQ V2400/G2400WD, HP w2408h, Samsung 240HD, Dell E248WFP
They all can be found for ~$250-300, if you look around and wait for sales.

I was recently looking for a decent response time/ low input lag (TN panel), that still had good color/ black levels and wanted to spend ~$250 on a new monitor.

This monitor will mainly be used for gaming with the rig in my sig, and some amateur photo/graphic work. I chose the Dell E248WFP and got it from their outlet , refurbished and shipped for ~$235 after the 15% coupon. It should be here in a few days, so I will post my results, hopefully satisfied.

From the reviews I have read:
BenQ V2400/G2400WD > HP w2408h = Dell E248WFP = Samsung 240HD

From the reviews I have read:
BenQ V2400/G2400WD > HP w2408h > Dell E248WFP > Samsung 240HD

What reviews showed those first three to be better than the Samsung 240HD? Also I would look at the T240 instead of the T240HD for a PC monitor since I don't believe it has the weaknesses of the HD model like reported input lag. Everyone says the T240 has really great color production for a TN panel. From the Benq reviews I've seen their TN panels don't look as impressive in the color production department.

The HP w2408h is a good one as well in terms of color production but it only carries a 1 year warranty and I'm not too crazy about it's looks. Something to note is that if you get a good HP w2408h it's going to be the one with the Samsung panel to begin with so I'd say the T240 is going to be as good or better since it's marketed for being one of Samsungs premium TN LCD's.

Oops, I was spacing out, I meant to put the Samsung/Dell/HP as equals, I edited my post.
I just got the impression from a lot of reviews I read and what I have heard on this forum that the BenQ was the best choice for the ~$275-300 range TN panel.

any ideas on the acer AL2416W? quote 6ms gtg with a PVA panel vs a TN+Film i would primarily be using this for gaming and a smooth pic would be key moreso then color but id still like to figure out if im wasting my time looking for anything other then a TN display far as gaming goes without spending 700+ on a S-IPS panel.

Best value right now is probably the ASUS VH226H. It can be had for only $200 and it's one hell of a bang for your buck. I just ordered one myself.
